Far East Cynic

Sure did not see that one coming……

Sarah Palin tells Alaska "to take this job and shove it!"

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin announced Friday she would not seek a second term and would soon step down as governor.

Not seeking a second term? Fine-makes sense and allows her two years to build a Presidential campaign. Romney did it, Huckabee did it, Ronald Reagan left after two terms. But not finishing the term you were elected to? Especially when part of your resume is supposedly being one of the most popular governors in America? That does not make any sense-and it would seem to my mind to be extremely counterproductive. If for nothing else it loses her a bully pulpit and time to build up something of a "governance portfolio" as it were.

Something is amiss here. What is she going to do-pal around with Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity for two years? And even if she takes a position in the lower 48-how do you keep your opponents from tagging her with the "quitter" label? The people who like her claim she is a fighter. How exactly does this display that?

A smoking gun about to break perhaps? She can’t go to Argentina or hike the Appalachian trail-that’s been done already. I have a hard time believing that-given the fact that she is one of the most thoroughly investigated people ever in the last 10 months.

Is Daddy Kristol ordering her back to the mother ship in New York? Kristol may think he drives the Republican bus-but he doesn’t.

Something does not make sense here-even if you like the woman. ( Which I do not, but still…….). There is something else going to happen.

I smell a rat here.

UPDATE: Choose any, none, or all. Halperin offers 10 possible reasons. Only one of them is a good one. (She’s got a baby to raise-like that stopped her before…..).

  1. Say what you will about Sarah Palin, but I’d love to “take her up the Appalachian Trail”, if you know what I’m saying. And I think you do.

  2. I’m long past that phase of my life. I once thought I wanted to nail Michelle Malkin too. However the prospect of having to roll over next to either of them and “snuggle” is just off putting.

I’d rather got to Wanchai and nail some of Malkin’s distant cousins. 😉

  3. Keep thinking another shoe is yet to fall. Seems terribly out of character for her ( as her PR portrays her- a fighter and reformer) to just up and quit in middle of only significant elected post she has held.

Her behavior at the press conferance seemed very strange. Reminded me of Mark Sanford in a skirt.

Regardless this may end her run for national office. And I do not for a second believe she is resigning for the benefit of her family unless there is a quid pro quo: I quit and you do not reveal what you know.
