Makes a good point……….

“The great thing about democracy is that it gives every voter a chance to do something stupid.”-Art Spander.

  1. More questions:
Which President did(do) you admire and why?
What do you think of the Japanese way of governance?

  2. I live in New Jersey.
I admired Abe Lincoln and I will tell you why.
He had a lot of personal issues that are well known.
And of course a terrible war to deal with.
    But he did this:
The war was a few months old and he asked McClellan to visit him in the White House.
GBM declined so Abe went to see him
He knocked at the door of his home and the Mrs answered.
Sorry, Georgie wasn’t home would the President care to wait?
he said yes and they went in to drawing room to have some tea.
Finally the “little Napolean of the West” returned, was informed that the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES was waiting to see him, told the Mrs that he was too tired to see ABE and would retire to his room.
Abe left, knowing that for the moment he NEEDED this general and NOTHING was more important then winning the war.
Can you imagine any current pol doing the same for the greater good?
    And I will tell you why i ask so many questions;
I am curious about people. Not only WHAT they believe but WHY do they hold those particular points of view. and I like a good debate.
I like someone to challenge me and my way of thinking.
I try to avoid ossified thinking. and your opinions, generally, are not the same as my own. You challenge me and this blog is small enough(no insult intended) that we(i) can interact with you.

    On Japan:
I know about Hara Castle, Tokugawa, Hideyoshi, the Ainu and the descendants of tanners. and of course cosplay. I DON’t understand the Japanese fascination with girls in school uniforms or violent manga.
The best milkshake I EVER had was at the Tokyo Hilton and Kobe steak is to die for.
I know NOTHING about Japanese politics.
    I ‘ll stop now.

  3. Fair enough.

I really admire most of the Presidents each for reasonsunique to their own time period. Some of the ones I don’t admire and why:

George W. Bush for leading this country into a state of never ending war for a very nebulous and unacheivable objective-he forgot that the role of the President is to advance the nations interests, not go on some half assed idealistic crusade.

Jimmy Carter-Gave away the Panama Canal

Warren Harding -do I have to explain it?

The two Presidents I really admire are the Roosevelts. Say what you want about FDR and the New Deal but he knew how to make the bulky machinery of government run.

I admire Ike a lot-but I think he made a huge mistake in not supporting the British in 1956 and I also think FDR was wrong about not supporting Churchill on restoring the British Empire ( which was in our interest).

    RE: Japan.

Japanese politics is interesting to me mainly becuase the Japanese government seems to work in spite of who is in power. I think the monarchy there is kind of cool and I admire the way the people of Japan have a love hate relationship with the Prime Minister and the Monarchy. Japanese do not get as fired up about politics as we do.

As for the country I like all things about it, especially their women.
