Far East Cynic

What they missed………

The guys on Kitty Hawk that is. I’m finally getting around to posting some of my pix from my foray to the fragrant harbor a couple of weeks ago. I sure wish I was there right now! Instead of being here watching people get frustrated producing a report that no one will ever read………….Even the Koreans will turn to the back page.

Anyway. If I were there now I could be seeing again:

The Star Ferry

I could have seen the fake Netherlands they were building by the Legco building-with some “cheesy” advertisements:

One of the great things about Hong Kong…and I think its a little known fact to tourists is that the city has a lot of parks and some neat places to go walking. Out on the MTR one morning I rode down to Quarry Bay. Quite by accident I stumbled onto this place:

Up the hill we go!

Which takes you by this place:

And further up I came across this-never did figure out what it was about. I am presuming it would have been sacrilige to sit down:

Even further into the woods I came across some history:

These were field stoves that were prepared by the British for the defence of Hong Kong Island. They were never used because the Japanese took the place too quick. At least that was the story on the sign!

And then, after an afternoon of hiking I went to Dan Ryan’s for a late dinner/lunch.

The next day I thought I would go to SoHo then to Stanley Bay, but then I ran into this crowd:

Two Brits, a New Zealander, and two Americans. The guy who looks Chinese is actually American and he is engaged to the blond girl in the back right of the picture. Talking to them was an adventure. These folks are candidates for the Dr. Phl show in a few years. When I ran into them, she was wearing pajamas (look close you will see) and she had to go to work in a couple of hours in Lan Kwai Fong. Thus notice how empty the wine bottle is, she put quite a dent it in it. Oh to be young!

Suffice it to say, I never made it to Stanely Bay. The couple and their adventures are worth a post to themselves……………

This project blows!

  1. very nice skipps, well done on your pictures…we need to see more of HK! I do miss it terribly….

And yeah, saw what you mean about the pyjamas

  2. Skippy, tks for posting the pics. For someone who most likely will never visit Hong Kong, it is a welcomed treat. Sorry the project sucks the proverbial Donkey D.
