I find it fascinating how the entire COVID-19 pandemic has undergone some sort of almost Orwellian historical revisionism, and not merely among the right wing, although they are of course by far the worst.
1.2 million people in America died from COVID, officially speaking, but the excess death toll during the pandemic was more like 1.5 million. Much of the right-wing discourse more or less just ignores these staggering numbers. Instead, the line seems to be yes, some people died, even a lot of people, but most of them were very old; very old people die all the time for all sorts of reasons, and who is to say that the vaccine didn’t actually kill quite a few of them, like RFK Jr. claims it did?
Another striking piece of revisionism is that an amazing number of people seem completely unaware that Donald Trump was president for every single day in 2020, and the first twenty days of 2021, which was the period with the strictest incursions on Freedom by those meddling public health authorities.
The simple truth was that the advice, and it’s important to stress that it was advice, was based on sound public health policy. Something that used to mean something in this country – before its population went insane for a worthless carnival barker.
All this is just nuts, and ignores the success that other nations had in contrast to the Whining States of America. For example, Japan has a far greater population density than Florida, a population three times that of Florida, yet had a death rate that was less than 1/3 that of Florida. The key factor is that Japanese folks understand the need to do things for the common good, while Ron DeSantis was a worthless sack of shit who thought he could make political points on a stack of dead people. All because they could not deal with some inconvenience. Fauci was relying on long-proven public measures, and if you don’t believe that, you should read the book The Premonition so as to disabuse you of your stupidity.
Go fuck yourself, Rand Paul. And you too, Ron DeSantis. Both of you deserve the worst that can befall you.
