It has been 5 years today since thugs committed treason against the United States of America. Sadly, there were Citadel graduates among those worthless thugs – a betrayal of everything that they supposedly believe about the ideals of the college. All of those people who invaded the Capitol were fucking thugs – of that, make no mistake. And they deserved the worst that could happen to them, and certainly not a pardon from the biggest thug of all.
Jack Smith made it clear that big fat POS Trump owns January 6th. Every bit of it. Everything about this nation is worse since January 6, 2021. The nation responded by electing the coup leader to office. You can say, “Oh, sure, his approval ratings aren’t great.” But should that be the standard here? America may beat this cancer. It may not. I’d bet on the latter. And no, winning the midterms in 2026 is not beating the cancer. It’s a slightly effective medicine that helps around the margins. Winning in 2028 is, at best, remission. It will take winning five or so election cycles in a row to defeat this cancer.
Because Trumpism is not just the deranged monster in the White House, but every idiot who thinks that Trump is how government is supposed to function. Selfish and stupid people ( and they know who they are) who care not a whit about making their country better – just living by the motto of I got mine, fuck you. They are the chemical that feeds this cancer, and because of that, they too have to pay the price for their stupidity.
The United States has the resources to be far better than the miserable nation that it is – but it’s going to take a massive effort to cleanse the disease of Trumpism from our midst. And the authors of that sickness have to pay for the damage they have done. Musk, Miller, Vought, and the rest of the Heritage Society scum – all of them have to swing.
Paul Krugman summed it up nicely:
American fascism is on the march, and anyone who balks at saying that clearly, who makes excuses and pretends that Trump and the people he brought in aren’t monsters, is deeply unpatriotic. If we are to have a chance at saving democracy, our first duty must be clarity. No sanewashing, no bothsidesing. Only facing the horrible truth can set us free.
On this horrible anniversary, I’m struck in particular by how what Krugman is saying could not be more obviously true, and how, again, it doesn’t seem to matter. People go on with their lives very much as if none of what is happening is happening, except for a few politically engaged people who are talking about fascism, which is a word that 60% of the populace could either not define at all, or only in the vaguest and most meaningless way.
Which brings me back to the fact that Citadel men were part of this Army of thugs. They had no right to be there, and by doing so, they defiled both the ideals they were taught and the ideals of the nation they claimed to love. They, along with the shitty milbloggers who helped bring us to this point, deserve all the scorn that can be laid upon them.
