Far East Cynic

Pretty tough to do…..

Be dumber than George W. Bush. But apparently Rick Perry has gone and accomplished it.  By claiming that Turkey-a NATO ally- is run by "Islamic terrorists", Perry has really shown how ignorant of the world as it is-he really is:

Governor Perry might want to notice that there are many differences between Turkey and Iran. For instance, look at this pdf report on Turkish-US military cooperation and see if that sounds like Iran to you. Turkey still hosts that Incirlik Airbase where the young Rick Perry says he was stationed but where he apparently did not bother to learn anything about his host country. If anything, US-Turkish military relations are on an upswing...Ironically, Perry is doing what he accuses Obama of– making an ally nervous and uncertain. Whereas Obama hasn’t done that, at all.

  1. Sometimes I really do think there ought to be a Constitutional amendment prohibiting Texas residents from running for President…;)

  2. Captains, I think you both missed the mad scramble for the door as civilization closed on Turkey. Don't either of you worry as you skipped away, none of those like you or of you actually noticed the fall of the Ottoman Empire either. Progressives are reliable in that respect if nothing else. Turkey's been recreating the Iranian Republic for almost a decade and locking up hundreds of flag officers in order to gut the old guardians of the State. Since I honestly don't care about them, I don't care as they do what Iran did. No skin off my nose. But honest observers would point shit like this out, in an absolute carefree way of course.

    Kill any naughty Kurds today?

  3. When's the last time you were in Turkey? Turkey is nothing like that-and from a purely Turkish standpoint, the Kurds represent a threat to the Turkish government.

  4. Honest observer, LOL. Conservatives avoid honesty at any cost. Please feel free to respond with some standard Frank Luntz idiocy. Solyndra is popular now. ACORN is passe but still resonates with your stupider republlcans (the 99%). Just avoid any actual, you know, logic.

  5. Curtis, I might add-that when  you get caught plotting against the elected government-people get arrested. The military in Turkey had a chance in the early 2000's to derail Erdogan's train, but for the first time in 70 years they did not intervene in the government. That alone is progress of a sort. Elections have consequences. We get Teabagger douchebags, they get Erdogan.

  6. Yeah Skippy et al, the Kurds represent a threat to the government of Turkey just like the Native Americans represented a threat to the United States so we can still hunt them down can we? When Turkey, then a NATO partner/ally refused entry and cross through into Iraq to the 4th ID and the United States they stopped being our friends. You can color it any shade of shit that you want to.

I think Ataturk and those around him knew the menace that Islam represents to any civilized society. They tried to constrain it both by the law and by the Army. We get to see some of that in ever single Islamic polity. They abide by a 'higher' law and one that those in charge get sole rights to define. You can see it here now if you like. Just who the hell told HHS that they could order mandatory abortion for free? Who?

  7. Oh, and Grzshit,
Bite me. You entered an argument without actually presenting one. Totally typical of your kind. Stretch your mind. Tell you what. Read all of Ann Coulter's books and then bring up here and raise one single instance of her not having her facts and arguments 100% justified, footnoted. Facts.

You won't of course any more that I will.

Did any of you catch Newt Gringrich's devastating take downs on You Tube over the last 3 days?

  8. Ataturk did understand that Islam was an impediment to Turkey's progress into the 21'st century. By not letting Turkey into the EU-the door was opened to allow the other parties to come to the fore. And like it or not-Turkey has gotten to where it is by free elections. Just like Hamas came to power in a free election. Are you saying the Turks don't get to have their own democracy?

Fuck the Kurds. They can get on board with being a part of Turkey. If anything there are too many nations.

  9. It was Ataturk's understanding that Islam is an impediment to entering the 19th century, much less the 21st. The way it worked was that the people were free to vote for suicide but when they did the secular wing would step in. It was something like our bicameral legislature and balance of powers between the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branch but take a look at what has been happening in Turkey over the last 10 years. It's like Roosevelt is in charge and packing the courts and then using them for his own purposes.
I know it fails to trouble you that in Iran this failed to happen and as a result….misery? Egypt? Libya? Saudi Arabia? Iran? How about Afghanistan? Islam is the kiss of death to modern post industrial civilization. No mistake, Turkey added itself to the list. Have you been to Anatolia or just the ports and coast?
Oh, by the way, the whole Ann Coulter thing was just a ruse to see if that ignorant bastard would undertake such an epic project. I haven't read any of her books either.
