Far East Cynic

Wait for it.

The new neocon meme that says the recent riots in Tunisia and Egypt are because of George W. Bush’s worthless decision to invade Iraq.

Even though the events are most decidedly not interrelated. But that fact will not make any difference to William “the bloody” Kristol or that moron Krauthammer.

Understand this, while all Arabs are scum- not all of them are the same.

  1. Skippy,
I thought the media line was that because of “W” the Arab world has a low opinion of the USA, and that Obama was going to correct all of this.

As much as “W” screwed things up, I don’t think he had anything to do with this. Mubarak has been in power for 30 yrs, and “W” was out in west Texas then. Also, the Tunisian president’s wife was reportedly the “Imelda Marcos” of the Middle East.

I hope that what ever type of government that gets put into place in these countries is at least reasonable. I was planning on a trip to Egypt soon but I guess that is out now.

Saudi Arabia really needs to be aware of what’s going on, and if they want any world sympathy, the price of oil had better start dropping.

  2. Skippy,
When I listen to the pundits on MSNBC, I have to ask, where was their support when the coptic churches in Egypt were being burned? Why didn’t they voice support for democracy when people were uprising in Iran?

I think history is repeating itself, in regards to a timid administration letting the Muslim Brotherhood (the ones who assinated Sadat) gain control of Egypt, and Yemen therby having stragic positions at both ends of the Suez Canal/Red Sea. What will the left then say, “It’s all ‘W’s’ fault.

  3. Robert Kaplans old ode..’The Coming Anarchy” might be worth a read….even mentions the Copts and Boutris Boutris Galli…and hate Egpytians hate the copts and I might add how Christians have been fleeing Lebanon and irag for awhile now.

  4. Just a point.

I believe it is somewhat imprecise to label all Arab people (or any other people) as you have done.

My belief is we are all largely the same, but become a product of our leaders, our systems, and our beliefs. (and even within a flawed system, there are still clear thinking people who’s voices may not be heard).

It is worth noting that the good people of the USA were perhaps once the most respected people, with the most admired system, on the earth.

You are probably not in that position now, because of your leaders, systems and current beliefs.

  5. Well when it comes to Arabs-until they do something about Islam, there is no real improvement on the horizon. Until Islam becomes “just” a religion and not a way of life-no real change will come to pass.

Plus, I’ve never been a fan of the way their society is organized-nor do I entirely trust them.
