Andrew Sullivan nicely sums up why tea is not a drink I really favor.
And this is why, despite my own deep suspicion of big government, I remain unmoved by the tea-partiers. Their partisanship and cultural hostility to Obama are far more intense, it seems to me, than their genuine proposals to reduce spending and taxation. And this is largely because they have no genuine proposals to reduce spending and taxation. They seem very protective of Medicare and Social Security – and their older age bracket underlines this. They also seem primed for maximal neo-imperial reach, backing the nation-building efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq, favoring war against Iran, etc. Only Ron Paul, peace be upon him, extends his big government critique to the military-industrial-ideological complex.
So they are truly not serious in policy terms, and it behooves the small government right to grapple with this honestly. They both support lower taxation and yet bemoan the fact that so many Americans do not pay any income tax. They want to cut spending on trivial matters while enabling the entitlement and defense behemoths to go on gobbling up Americans’ wealth. And that lack of seriousness is complemented by a near-fanatical cultural alienation from the modern world.Â
His last line is the best, “Until then, I’ll treat them with the condescending contempt they have thus far deserved.”
Have you ever noticed how the big insane HATERS of today resemble the big insane HATERS of yesteryear? You look now at the hatred spewed by the left and the vile and baseless accusations they toss out against the Tea Party and Sarah Palin and you just have to compare them to the white racists who were so proud to align themselves at HATING the little girl that integrated William Frantz School and the teenagers that integrated Little Rock High. Their little white faces twisted in rage at a girl that never hurt them.
Seriously you fucksticks, what did that girl or those people who marched ever fucking do to you? Did they pea on your captain crunch, toss a recyclable into the trash, shit in your soup? What the fuck?
Have they no right to express dissent?
You fuckers piss me off. You intolerant motherfucking leftist progressive scumbags.
I’d offer to go away for another week or two so the shy little wood nymphs and water dryads could come back and shyly express their measureless contempt for everyman who disagrees with them but after mature reflection; fuckem.
Our host is the worst of you.
Skippy, you live in the place (actually an oasis of civilization) as my mom described it. Your hatred knows no bounds and shows no reasons, as you’ve said before.
I’d ask you to consider yourself as a 6 year old black girl who’s mom sent her to school so that for a year she had to be escorted by 4 US Marshals simply because the omnidirectional hatred of whites who hated blacks required some level of protection. Those white? They hated for no reason.
You and your ilk who hate Coulter and hate Bush and hate Rove and Hate all conservatives to the point that even massive protection is not enough today to keep them safe from the harm that YOUR HATERS launch against them suck. Does that make you all feel like it’s OK because you’re just hating and it’s OK since the one’s you hate are beyond the protection of the law?
Have you ever asked yourself how your undifferentiated and mindless hate distinguishes you from the Klan?
Wasn’t that the case when haters like you and yourselves hated that little 6 year old black girl? You know, at the Tea Party 2 days ago.
I have no idea what little girl you are talking about.
Projection much, Curtis?
Curtis I had to read this several times to even make sense of it-and for the life of me, I do not understand the connection between 1957 Arkansas and now-save for the fact that some of the most ardent tea party supporters want to go back to that world.
Here is a question for you though-and one I have had to live through the past year. Why is the allegation of “hatred” only one way? When someone supports the idea that the nation needs a change of ideas and course, they branded as a Socialist, Liberal or worse. Carrying signs of Obama as the Joker or other slur is not indicative or hatred?
Sullivan’s critic is very reasoned-he points out clearly the inconsistency of the “movement”. Furthermore-unlike a girl in Arkansas, the tea partiers actually are a threat to me and my way of life. They want to make America an even more unbearable place to live as they continue to stick their head in the sand and refuse to acknowledge the real problems that exist in this country.
Mindless hate involves using the word fuckstick-not trying to make a reasoned argument. If these boneheads were upset about all the money we are wasting in Iraq and Afghanistan-or not so ardently defending the right of banks to screw you over, they would have more appeal. But they aren’t and so it falls to me to highlight their hypocrisy. It’s a dirty job-but its got to be done.
Skippy, I’ll keep saying this until I turn blue in the face. Obama wn withj a mojority vote. From the MSM, they keep portraing the Tea Party people as just some sort of fringe or the entire Republican party, take your pick. If that is so, then you ahve nothing to worry about. If they are all of just Republicans, then Obama should have no problems winning again, since e had a mjority of the popular vote. However, what is really distrubing the MSM is thatpeople who did vote for Obama now may have voters remorse, and may not side with the Tea Partyers but vote against Obama anyway. This is just another attempt to try to blame other people for the Dems and Obama’s failures to get re-elected in 2012 (yes we have started the campaign all ready).
In regards to the claims that the Tea Party is all pure “white bread” racists, looking at your post from the sports bar watching the Penguins game, I could say the same thing about you. You are in a bar full of white people, not a minorty inshight. Whiter than a Klan rally in there. So are you saying by going there that you are against Blacks and other minorities? Or are you just going there to support your team?
I amsure that there are some Black bars and locations in Pittsburgh that like the Penguins, and who rally around the home team. But, the common liberal mantra will be that Blacsk don’t like winter sports and so it’s ok for them to not be there as long as they have the NBA playoffs to watch. I gues with comments like that, I should submit my resume to MSNBC.
Maurice,
Its not that peoplecwhovoted for Obama will turn against him and vote the other way- it’s that when they do the alternative is something truly horrific it won’t be John McCain on the ballot , it will be someone who will be to the right of Atilla the hun.
Pittsburgh’s racial demographics are probably better for another discussion- it has some things that make it behind the rest of the nation IMHO.
Skippy,
I think the American people have been had byh Obama and aer not going to be as dumb again to fall for someone that is all “smoke and mirrors” from either the left or right. Look at Scott Brown in MA. Sure he was heralded as the “anti-Obama” but he has opended his mouth and guess what, I thinkthe people see they have jsut done the same thing with him as with Obama. So I give the American voter a little more faith than you do I think.
Once again, I am still saying if Obama is so great, and now that he has been in office he should be able to stand on his record. If the people aer going to vote along the same ideological lines, then he will be in next year. If anything, if people do vote along party lines, you should be more worried not so much as what the Tea Party may bring to the table, but what the Dems will bring out whenthey see Obama does not have a chance at winning. That would make me more nervous than the Tea Party.
Jrandom,
The goal of that post was to PROJECT so yes, you nailed it.
My goal was to focus haters to consider themselves as haters. Didn’t work for the likes of you. It was a simple swap projection. Put loathing and hatred of one girl in place of another girl. Neither one of them ever did anything to you did they? But you purely hate one of them to death don’t you?
Palin juxtaposed with the bravest little girl I know.
The vile and abusive hatred spewed on both by ‘true believers’ makes a pilgrim out of me.
Both of those girls were loathed and hated by extremists of the most intolerant and pig ignorant fucksticks on the planet at the time.
Neither of the hating groups has been able to offer any sort of reason. [well they do don’t you agree? they’re not like you. they deserve a bullet to the back of the head from some clued in guy who knows what’s better for them don’t they? they should be silenced. they’re just girls. they’re scum. Who’d want to hear their input. didn’t go to harvard. losers. one of them was black… ]
LOOK!!!! Now our host will give a reason for hating and loathing a girl that never ever did one single solitary thing to harm or hurt him in any way shape or fashion! One was 6 and one wore red, the biotch!!!!
Still want to use a machine gun to mow down those who disagree?
Skippy,
One can hardly decry the appropriate use of fuckstick and then turn around and use the word bonehead when starting a facile argument decrying the use of such terms in an argument, unless you’re Monty Python.
Ruby Bridges, the bravest little girl we’ll ever know, integrated William Frantz over 50 years ago. My girl would do it. She’d stand up to the daily screams of rage, rants, abuse, thrown crap etc. I just juxtaposed that little girl with what you and sullivan do on a daily basis to another little girl that never hurt you and yet she abides.
You wondered how can she make $12M and I’d answer, because she is going down the lame-stream media gullet sideways with a switchblade. I would that I could find the PBS video of long ago of little Ruby heading to class alongside her US Marshals and the white faces twisted in hatred at her temerity so I could post it here. That’s you guys as you contemplate Palin. You’re funny. Your dwarf doesn’t get it and your sprites and nyads are sheltering from the rain.
Was there some tool here who questioned my language? Why don’t we tell your tool that vicious, unprovoked, unjustified, unproven assaults should always bear the weight of proof first?
lickspittle assaults on girls by guys that blew clinton and edwards and believed al gore. seriously. you guys need to head to Oz for brains.
From our host, “condescending contempt they deserve.”
so you’re ok with regarding all who disagree with you as those you need to handle with condescending contempt they deserve?
How fucking typical of you all.
Did anybody notice how our premier “Hate First” party failed to either answer the question or counter the charge?
So, dudes,
When you’re out there hating with all your heart, how does it feel to be held up as a hate firster? How do you answer the charge that you are absolutely no different from the Klan? Undifferentiated hatred based on a simple genotype?
You nymphs and dryads may want to head to Block Island or Marthas Vinyard for the week.
Heading to the beach at Del Mar for a swim and surf and then I’ll be at a beach party.
Curtis, you crack me up. Your comparison of Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter to Ruby Bridges almost made me fall out of my chair laughing.
Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter are professional provocateurs. They make their living saying outrageous and intolerant things about the other side of the political spectrum. They tell their audiences what they want to hear, and their audiences eat it up. Saying this isn’t hate, it’s just a fact. It’s also a fact that they make damn good money doing it, not that there’s anything wrong with that. But if they dish it out they ought to be able to take it, and not claim to be a victim when somebody fact-checks an outrageous claim or points out a fundamental hypocrisy.
But for you, when they get some criticism suddenly they’re the moral equivalent of a little black girl who just wanted to go to a better school in the face of an angry white mob. The only angry white mobs I’m seeing are Palin and Coulter’s audiences.
This is classic projection – you take the worst aspects of the Tea Party mob and claim that’s what the left is doing. It doesn’t work, but the absurdity and sheer chutzpah of the attempt has me rolling on the floor.
So flame on, Curtis. I can’t wait for your next post comparing Sarah to Joan of Arc.
I see an extreme amount of reaction formation going on here. Seems to me some people react violently when thier cherished views are challanged. When inconistencies are exposed.
NYT poll supports the lack of consistent views among tea baggers.
Ah, JRandom,
You need a safer chair. 🙂
Little Ruby was an “amateur” provocateur but all of those women had one trait in common.
You talk about Anne telling “her audience” what they want to hear. Why again is it that she cannot speak to vast swathes of audience without race-baiting nazis boiling out of the woodwork to shut her down? You never saw that even once from groups that don’t agree with Chomsky did you? Only the left gets a license to hate out speakers.
I served up little Ruby Bridges most deliberately. She was a most brave little girl who every day entered a little hell where those who disagreed with her very being were free to scream and yell and shout their hatred and vile abuse. That’s pretty close to what Anne Coulter endures. And identical to the crapfest leftists deal up wherever Palin is concerned.
I dare to say none of the women involved in the leftist shitfest feel like victims. Tell you what though Champ, why don’t you just post here with any facts that you found out that Coulter wrote about and prove her wrong in any single instance? You might note that none of your herd have ever once, not ever, caught her up in a misstatement of fact…. But you go ahead and do the deep research. You insane haters like research…
Tea party mob? Seriously dude, you spank yourself.
Sir,
Your comment, “NYT poll supports the lack of consistent views among tea baggers” goes a long way to making my/our point. The Tea Party is not like the SIEU or any other single focus groups. It’s a rather large number of people with a shared consensus but they have no one man waiving the baton and telling them what to think. They/we are people with a number of views that don’t seem to get a fair shake from the 2 major party politburos.
We refuse to identify with the One and refused to be shoved into McCain’s camp. It’s a quite populous wilderness with plenty of room for all.
We refuse to identify with the One and refused to be shoved into McCain’s camp.
So you are refusing to take any type of reasonable position and instead are insisting on idealogical purity as a precondition of membership. Got it.
And that is clearly the problem and it leads to the idea suggested by Maurice. Obama will have to run on his record-for both good or ill-in 2012. In many ways his record is Bush continued, especially with respect to foreign policy. Or may be to re-phrase that, Bush’s ideas without the entirely strange vision that he was pre-ordained by God, to do his wars.
Which brings to the real point of the discussion with Maurice. I have no problem with Obama running on his record and taking his lumps-hopefully employment will be below 6% by then ( I doubt it). However it is important that the discussion is held honestly about what his record really is-not the lies and distortions of it that exist in tea party land. They refuse to have reasonable conversation-and its not their opposition that created that situation, its folks like Michelle Malkin et all worryng about “infiltrators”.
In fact, they will almost certainly keep the GOP from winning back the Senate by backing actual lunatics, such as Rand Paul in Kentucky. Furthermore, I think those folks are going to be very disappointed in Florida’s Marco Rubio after he vanquishes Charlie Crist in the primary and runs to the middle for the general electorate. And throwing their support to the demonstrably unelectable J.D Hayworth in Arizona is never a good idea. Do you think that it’s a coincidence that moderate Republicans like Tommy Thompson and George Pataki aren’t running for easily winnable Senate seats in deep blue states like Wisconsin and New York? I don’t.
If those people still exist in 2012 (which I suspect they won’t) and somehow manage to stop Mitt Romney from winning the nomination, they will have created the perfect atmosphere for Obama to be re-elected by a 1964-like margin.
And there is a difference between a little girl in Arkansas-she never asked to be abused. Palin and Coulter go out of their way to beg for abuse. By saying things that are totally wacko-and no reasonable person could advocate. Ruby Bridges didn’t deserve it-Palin and Coulter do.
You’re just being silly. A “moderate” RINO is indistinguishable from Pelosi. Hopefully they’ll be cut cold this November. McCain is/was Pelosi or Landreau or Snow et al.
She never asked to be abused …….so that’s justification enough to abuse the shit out of her just as some have so abused the little girls of the Palin family? Did any of them ask to be abused?
‘refusing to take any kind of reasonable position’. How did you win the spurs that define my position? What exactly made you think you could determine if it was ‘reasonable’? Am I entitled to the privilege? Is it my call to declare a fatwa and declare your opinions outside the pale?
Begging for abuse are they? Brown burka or blue?
Oh heck Skippy, I didn’t mean to scare them all away again.
We refuse to identify with the One and refused to be shoved into McCain’s camp. [me]
So you are refusing to take any type of reasonable position and instead are insisting on idealogical purity as a precondition of membership. Got it.[our host]
Is that what I did? I’m not letting YOU define my position just as the gang that goes to tea parties refused to let you define their position. I could tell you what it is though. It’s radical. You won’t like it. If you really want to know ‘my’ position is simple. There is a building in DC dedicated to ‘my’ position. You can read all about it in the National Archive. It’s in the room that has all the guards around it. It’s 2756 pages less than the Obama Health Care Bill. That would be my position.
And that is clearly the problem and it leads to the idea suggested by Maurice.
You want to run your position based on the One’s record. OK. Produce the record.
You can’t can you? There is no there there.
It’s kind of hard to follow you when you make claims about his record and cast aspersions on anybody who wonders WTF about the One but cannot produce so much as one iota of ‘record’. There’s one guy that can produce the record. He has consistently failed to do so. He’s like that other democrat twit who swore blind he’d produce his war record 10000 days ago. We’re still waiting.
Any idiot can get elected. Look at the stupid moron who took Cynthia McKinneys place in Atlanta. He thinks Guam is going to flip over and sink.
It’s you guys that worry me. You have absolutely no problem with coming out and hating a girl just because she is different from you or holds different views than you. You’re a shade paler than the klan who hated those little girls to death for the crime of holding a different opinion. Try a little thought problem right now. What would you do if you had palin or coulter at your mercy? Ruby?
nobody i know ever did anything that evil. wasn’t me wishing i had a machine gun so i could deal with partyers. that would be you. that would be those like you. there is only one group that would condemn protesters to death. democrats.
If I had Palin at my mercy? I would deprive her of her money. Sue her till every last penny she had was gone. Force her to live out the rest of her life in the obscurity she deserves. That would be her penance for urging literally millions of others to selfish stupidity.
As for Obama’s record, there is plenty to discuss. Its a lot like Bush’s. Commitment to withdrawal from Iraq per the SOFA, passage of health care reform, surge in Afghanistan. continuation of GTMO and flawed Bush polcies of rendition etc. Finally giving Israel the kick in the balls it deserves.
There is a record there and it is mixed at best. To say that I am totally happy with Obama is wrong. I would be doing things a little differently-but then I don’t aspire to be President. I want to have enough power to impose what I know needs to be done on those who don’t. Obama will never have the ability to do that and neither will I. But in my dreams…………:-)
