Far East Cynic

Guess which is which….

Quote of the day-most appropriate for April Fools Day:

— There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

  1. I know. Shocking waste of money. I read the former but never got around to reading anything by Rand. I don’t recall seeing it at any of the DOD schools I attended growing up and book stores were scarce on the Great Plains around Fort Riley and Leavenworth back then and of course, I attended high school right there where you’re at so you can imagine what it was like bookstore wise/library wise back in the ’70s. Come to think of it, the Reconstruction Act probably forbade the sale of books of that ilk south of the Mason-Dixon line for obvious reasons.
