Far East Cynic

Election short observations…….

Dear Senator Obama,

If you do not rein in your own party and keep them focused together-you will be drinking no champagne next Tuesday night. If I had 2000 dollars I could spare-I might be tempted to go place a bet on McCain winning the election. With the current odds it would pay off nicely. At least better than the stock market of late.

Foolish bet? Maybe. But not a dead certain loser of a bet-and far more likely to pay off this week than last. I’m afraid you do not realize it yet, but your campaign peaked last week and is coasting, losing altitude right now,  through some turbulent airspace. McCain on the other hand has added power and is gaining altitude.

You should be very nervous. Your support is soft-not firm, and could still turn on you in heart beat.

Second, you should not underestimate the effects of the repeated use of the words: socialism, income redistribution, and “tax and spend”. Republicans are like zombies-they will walk around in a trance repeating the mantra that’s played over the loudspeakers. Plus, and it is always amazing to see this-people who are not rich will defend the rich bastards who are screwing them to the hilt. It’s because they want to preserve the illusion that someday they could be that rich-no matter how stacked the deck is against them. Or how many opportunities to gain that wealth have been foreclosed on them by the stupidity of the current administration.

Your should lock Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi,  and Harry Reid in a closet. Better yet-push them over a cliff and get some new Democrats, they are out there, to lead the way. Frank in particular was devastating with his : “cut by 25% gaffe”. For a party that carries a word association with the term , “pussy”, those kinds of remarks are deadly poison.

Screw the polls. This is going to be a close election. A nail biter. You can still lose this election and McCain can win it. Which is not in the best interests of the country. Why? Two words: President Palin.

So crack the whip and put some of this junk to bed. Keep your message cutting like a laser beam-about the economy, about a prudent foreign policy, and about being a reasonable man. The land mines you have to navigate around are large. Fraudulent nonetheless-flawed in the extreme-but  still deadly. Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter.

I’m telling you this as a pal. You are in trouble friend and do not yet realize it. I can envision about 3 scenarios where 30 electoral votes slip away faster than you can say “pit bull with lipstick”. The election and the repudiation of George Bush and his eight years of flawed government are too important to screw it away in the in close position.

It is going to be a long week and you cannot speed up the hand of time. The opposition has a lot of time left on the books and they are in their comfort zone: defending income disparity and blatant unfairness as some sort of God given right.  Trying to argue that balancing the standard of living to raise it to a higher median just goes over most people’s heads. Stick to the basics.

If you ignore this advice-don’t blame me when you are staring at the TV wondering what the hell happened. And if you think there is going to be any bipartisanship or forgiveness from either side-trust me there won’t be.

Now turn to and get it done. The country needs to change.

  1. The S-P’s are getting very worried that the mantra of change-change-change has opened the eyes of the voters to take a close look at just what the democratic ticket really has in store for America.

You understand the problem …..”Democrats, they are out there, to lead the way.” but yet you think by electing the most liberal of them all to be President will change(did I say that) things in Washington. Oh, I forgot it’s all about hating Bush & Palin.

Maybe you should place that bet!

  2. It is going to be a very interesting night, election night. You are right, the dems now seem to be in a coasting mode whereas they need to be hammering home the economy, the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, clean energy, end corporate welfare and socialism for the rich, etc.

I would also like it if someone would explain to me how paying taxes is unpatriotic. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like paying taxes, especially in light of where some of that money is going, but we are so far in the hole now it seems that a tax cut is not possible no matter who get elected.

A McCain presidency does not scare me, in fact I kind of like John McCain. I wish he’d been elected in 2000 instead of the W, but that is neither here nor there. What does scare me is a Palin Presidency. The woman knows no bounds and will do anything to further her own cause at the expense of all those around her. Cute little hockey mom? Right. For our sake and everyone else’s lets hope she never gets her grubby little hands on the football, or it really will be the end times.

  3. If the polls are to be believed, McCain still has a small chance, which is astonishing considering the forces arrayed against him, including Skippy-san.
I did listen to Obama’s speech in Ohio yesterday and I liked what I heard, especially about fiscal responsibility and that many/some of the grandiose plans of NEW spending need to be put on hold until the economy gets better.

  4. I have to admit-I would be a lot more comfortable about McCain if he had not picked Palin. I do not want her near anything in DC-or Alaska for that matter. The fact that the "base" loves her is even more scary. Really makes me wonder what would have happened if McCain had picked someone competent-like Tom Ridge, or (and I can't believe I am saying this) Lieberman. And then ran a focused national unity campaign.

  5. As Paul observed a McCain presidency doe not scare me too much.Or at least until he veered to the far right to suck up to those he at one time referred to as the agents of intolerance. When he chose Palin I felt he had lost his base to bend over for the Republican crazy base to screw him and the country without the benefit of K-Y.

Even the remote possibilty (equal to the probability of me waking up tomorrow on the far side of the moon) of Palin as president terrifies me. Regardless of anything Obama may or may not do or represent he is much preferable to Palin. And I cannot stress that too much.

I did write the McCain campaign a very nice letter stating my concerns with her choice and the lack of focus in issues. Not a hint of a response. Guess McCain is being totally controlled by the Bush crowd.

Still, Obama and the whole world could lose this election. That terrifies me.

  6. How many of you are Defense Contractors like me? Might want to dust off those resumes if the “One” gets annointed.
