Far East Cynic

Telling the truth

I have made no secret over the last few years of the contempt I feel for Allen West. If someone would take him out back and beat the living shit out of him-I would cry no salt tears. The guy was probably a prick as an officer, deserved his Article 15, and since leaving the service has shown himself to be a disgrace as a politician and a human being.

So it was with great interest that I read this little tidbit:

Bob Crowder, the Republican who ran against Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) in the primary, announced Wednesday that he is endorsing Democrat Patrick Murphy in the congressional race. And he didn't mince his words.

“As a Republican for over 30 years, I'm embarrassed by the radical fringe that has taken over the party. Sadly, Allen West is their poster child, and the hateful, divisive comments he's made throughout this campaign make it clear to me he’s the wrong choice for our district,” Crowder said in a statement.

Crowder, who is the Martin County Sheriff, said he is backing Murphy because "he has the right temperament and respect for others — including people he doesn't agree with."

Crowder said Murphy can work with both parties and will be a congressman that Florida's 18th District can be proud of, "unlike his opponent."

Crowder has been mum on the West-Murphy race until now. But his wife, Debbie Crowder, endorsed Murphy earlier this month. She cited the fact that West wouldn't shake her husband's hand at a local GOP meeting as one of the reasons behind her Murphy endorsement.

Allen West stays classless to the very end.

  1. Martin County Sheriff Robert Crowder, one of the most popular lawmen in county history — with a 47-year history of serving his community and the Republican Party — looks around today at his lonely campaign for U.S. Congress, knows it's a long shot at best and admits he knows why.

He backed Democrat Alex Sink in the 2010 gubernatorial election. No — he did more than that. He campaigned for her, on national television and in high-profile TV spots.

Nevertheless, the affable sheriff holds out hope that he can pull out a victory in the GOP primary for the new District 18 — or at least be close to his opulently financed and better-supported opponent — when the final ballots are tallied Aug. 14.

The local party had no problem tossing him aside and district polls show a wide gap between him and the incumbent forced to run in the new district, flame thrower U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, who is looking to represent the Northern Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast market.

Crowder contends the local party leadership has become "more radical and less responsible."

I think the Republicans in the district show some promise of intellectual honesty and keeping the faith by voting against Crowder and he showed us once again his true colors. He's a democrat for Christ's sake! Having this clown try to torpedo me in the previous election, or the one I love, I wouldn't shake hands with the rats either.

  2. When the GOP is represented by a worthless piece of shit like West-then you have to do other things. Besides, how is that any different than what several other politicians do. You don't get to choose his party affiliation-only he does. And he has just as much right to publicly note the hole the teabaggers have driven the GOP into.
