Far East Cynic

Missed it by that much………..

Poor John Adams, the poor man never gets his due. Our 2nd President may have saved America more than a couple times from its own worst influences, but he never gets any credit for it. Tea Bag America always would rather misquote his successor than give the man from Quincy any credit.  Might have something to with his calendar being a bit off:

"The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America..I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."

Anyway, since I will be celebrating the 4th of July in truly patriotic fashion, by boarding a plane to travel to a foreign country to eat foreign food and spend my hard earned dollars in someone else's currency- I thought I would post this reminder of the things you can still like about America:

 Happy 4th of July!

  1. John Adams!! Get serious.  Do Alien and Sedition Acts give you pause?  His request for a hereditary monarch?
If you need a reading list of American history would be happy to reccomend a few fine books.

  2. I think on balance-John Adams did great things-especially when viewed against the current backdrop of the teabag America that does both him and Jefferson a grave disservice. You have to look at then men in their entirety. And Jefferson would be appalled at the ideas that are atrributed to him.
