If ICE were really concerned about so-called “illegal” immigration, they would be doing things far differently than they are. The agency would be more of an intelligence gathering and legal process server group than an armed militia, roaming the streets terrorizing citizens and immigrants alike. They are not the way they should be, and make no mistake, the agency should not exist at all. Neither should the Department of Homeland Security. The fact that ICE is behaving like a private army tells you everything you need to know about how evil they really are.
Trump famously refuses to say what his plans are for anything outside his magnificent and beautiful ballroom, and he is an unreliable narrator. His whims direct his actions. Miller’s actions are directed toward ethnic cleansing. Noem seems enamoured of the violence itself.
A stated objective is to remove undocumented immigrants who are also criminals. Miller’s objective is to arrest 3000 people a day. Suggesting otherwise are the unfocused attacks on citizens, documented immigrants, and children, along with secret and unconstitutional rules of engagement.
Rather, the objective seems to be to subdue the population of Minnesota or to punish them for voting against Trump and welcoming immigrants into their community.
The tactics the feds are using to achieve their objective seem likely to fail. To their credit, citizens in ICE-occupied cities have protested and made it a clear mission to make these worthless thugs suffer, denying them access to businesses and, in a couple of cases, places to stay. Good for those people. They need to pay a price for what they have done.
Miller, Noem, and the rest of the scum in the administration don’t have a theory of mind for their opponents. They can’t conceive of government other than by force. They can’t imagine people endangering themselves for their neighbors. That is why they are constantly looking for the mysterious funders of the resistance.
They also seem to believe their claim that most people agree with them. I see that with Trump humpers on a myriad of subjects. They somehow have the misguided idea that 31.2 percent of the population constitutes a majority.
This is a part of a deeper and truly disgusting view of what these cocksuckers believe governing is about. In that regard, Trump is a reflection of a sick idea that took hold in the Republican Party back when John McCain lost the election. Namely, a widespread belief, voiced by leaders of the GOP and shared by their obscenely rich followers, that political participation by the political opposition is inherently illegitimate and should be investigated, officially discouraged, diluted, and otherwise suppressed by law. The GOP and its followers treat dissent as presumptively illegitimate and as justification for official punishment, prosecution, and violence, such as by using the term “terrorist” to label persons monitoring government use of force.
This disgusting point of view is aided and abetted by a legal system that is increasingly unwilling or unable to place limits on the ruling party or its leaders, in part because the ruling party has co-opted the Supreme Court. This legal system that refuses to impose consequences for abuses of the rights of normal people, no matter how severe, because the ruling party will not prosecute those people and the ruling party’s supporters in the legal system obstruct any such prosecution, and because the ruling party will use the power of pardon to protect its supporters from consequences of abusing the rights of others.
The results have been entirely predictable and are a betrayal of the ideals we supposedly believe in as a nation. We need more immigration, not less, coupled with a better system for assimilating immigrants into our society. When shitbags like Miller portray all immigrants as criminals, they are ignoring data that says exactly the opposite.
Sadly, too many Americans believe these lies as well. They remain oblivious to the danger to both themselves and to their livelihoods that this situation is creating. There is going to come a time when restraint will be thrown to the wind, and the only option will be to execute harsher measures against this worthless administration. That’s really not a path we want to go down, but over time, we may have no other choice.
