Rick Blaine: "So how we doing tonight?"
Croupier: "A couple of thousand less than I thought there would be…….."
And why is that exactly?
Because yours truly just bought a Mac Book Pro with a Retina display!
After hearing Spike loft its praises-I decided to take the plunge-aided in part by the urgings of my sister and the fact that I have gotten the "Blue Screen of Death" on my old laptop twice this trip. And it took more than a little effort to get back to the old restore point.
So after all the years of decrying Mac's-now I are a member of the dark side. What is your bidding my master?
While I have been a Mac bigot for as long as there have been Macs, I have to say that I am put off by the completely unservicable nature of the MacBook Pro/retina. Want a new battery, or a larger solid-state drive? Tough sh**. Got a problem with that beautiful retina display? To bad – it's glued in.
ifxiit.com rates this computer as the least reparable Mac evar.
Well-now is a great time to find this out. 🙁
When you can take the color-wheel of death from hand; you will have learned.
Skippy,
No matter what type computer you bought someone will tell you that its not good because of "x". I believe once you get used to working with your new toy you will come to like it and not look back to Windows.
I have 2 2008 MacBooks and they still run great. If there is a problem, reinstalling the OS X will usually fix it. Mac has a great Q&A section that will get you up and running as normal as well. And, as a last resort, you can call a tech 24/7 and for a fee they will make your Mac run like it just came out of the box. I'm never going back.
So far-I like it a lot. For one thing its a lot lighter than my current laptop. Second-I can reformat the old laptop and give it to the SO, and she can have her own machine. ( Assuming I can fix some of the software issues). I did have one issue installing MS Office on the machine-but I followed Apples guide to unistall and reinstall and now it works fine.
Now that is one thing I think is not as easy as Windows-uninstalling a program is a rather complex evolution. Dragging different files to the trash is not necessarily intuitive.
But I have wanted one of these Retina Mac Books since they came out-and the display is so nice! 🙂
Time to buy into the ecosystem…. Appletv, time machine, iPhone/iPad etc…. Not to mention chargers in different rooms, although probably not as necessary as they used to be with that huge battery.
