Opsec matters

And why you should practice it.

  1. Mostly it is obvious that it does not matter.

It’s like darken ship and red lights and light traps and no smoking on deck while turning and burning an SPS 10 or a 40 or 49 or Aegis.

Call the ball. Flight traffic over the med nearing/crossing the Libyan coast has followed a “PATTERN” with flights to Libyan airports or airports south on a well known/posted schedule. Military flights are outriders and easily identified as outsiders/dangers. That’s active radar/IFF. It’s the same if the IFF is turned off. It’s the same if the flight following data doesn’t stop. It’s the same if the unknown track follows a known flight track before or after scheduled traffic.

Wak the radars and then play fair. It’s the best way to kill 19 year old interns without risk of harm or danger to the stealthy.

  2. You are right on. I was a member of the Purple Dragon OPSEC team operating out of CINCPAC Hq in the 70s and before that I was the OPSEC Officer at the Strategic Air Command HQ during the late 60s. These were key findings then having to do with Air Ops and apparently we haven’t learned any thing since.
