Another year spent in Shopping Mall.-Still, one has to count his blessings, at least I have a job ( for now-next year, who knows?).
And the arrival of that time of year means that at the Shopping Mall Botanical gardens-they have the Festival of Lights. The S.O. suggested we walk it this year, which they allow for the first five days its open-then after they they have people drive the route. It was a good idea:
I played with a lot of different settings-and I discovered yet again-why I need a tripod for some things. You can see why over at the Picasa site.
But the ones I did get to come out where some interesting displays:
All the displays are sponsored by somebody-and the cumulative effect as you walk is pretty neat:
They even get the school kids in on the act:
They even sold hot chocolate and Snickerdoodles. I like Snickerdoodles:
The rest can be found here can be found here . (Both the good and the bad).
You done good. What camera you use?
Canon Rebel T1 Digital SLR.
Lenses?
I use the 17-35 and 70-200 IS lenses on my Rebel. Both a L lenses.
FWIW, I assume you’re at least a head taller than your SO. If so, the top of her head will make a remarkably good tripod in a pinch.
However, payback may be a bitch.
For night photography you want to open up your lens to 2.8 or better.
The canon 1.4 50mm lens is a great lens for something like this. The 1.8 is ok, but it’s a lot cheaper (price and build quality)

Save your $$ for high quality lenses and at least one off-camera flash. Upgrading your camera body isn’t as important.
indeed, glass is very important though Sigma and Tamron make acceptable lenses at a fraction of the cost of a Canon.
And ALMOSt any sin can be fixed with software, if you want to take the time.
