Especially when you are incapable of telling the truth.
The details of Sarah Palin’s contract were ordered released by a California judge who pointed out that University of California officials had violated state public records laws in agreeing with Palin to keep the contract secret.
On top of a $75,000 dollar speaking fee (half payable up front)-it has some other particualr goodies:
If flying on a private plane IT MUST be a Lear 60 or a Hawker 800. (These don’t come cheap). If flying commercially two first class seats and two full fare economy seats must be purchased. Internationally two first class and two business class tickets-no business class 4 first class tickets please.
She gets a suite, complete with laptop and printer (guess she can’t afford her own)-SUV transportation to/from-bendable straws. While none of the foregoing is that surprising, the billing to her agent of all fees, and no accountability or traceability of expenses to Palin directly provided in the contract is interesting.
For the media-Sarah Palin remains behind her force shields, not taking direct questions, all questions screened and accepted or rejected in advance, and photographers have a lot of restrictions placed upon them.
Read the whole contract here.
So by my conservative math-if you want Tea Bagger Barbie at your next shindig, it’s going to cost you and your financiers somewhere in the neighborhood of 125,000 dollars to stage the event.
So much for the common touch.
Tinkerbelle!
That contract is completely normal for a major speaker, and I can see the reasoning behind most of these requests. Clearly the issue with the airplanes is safety. She doesn’t want to get stuck on one of those Ted Stevens planes.
Pick on her policies if you want, but even the dems would have similar speaking contracts.
So your mad that she requests certain perks paid by those that want her to speak to them, damn capitalists!
I worked in Purchasing for Trump Casino and I saw many an entertainment contract which was comparable to Sarahs.
What you SHOULD have asked your readers if they know if something liket his is “normal” and not have your usual knee jerk SPDS response.
*sarah Palin Derangement Syndrome…
Her being a liar is another matter altogether.
Actually-as I pointed out a lot of it is sort of in the range-but she is not worth the speaking fee. Also the press restrictions are pure BS. If she is truly Presidential material she is going to learn how to have to accept and receive criticism.
Furthermore-a state university for a school system in moderate financial difficulty-maybe has better ways to spend 125,000 dollars. Sends the wrong message.
I would encourage you to go back and look at the links-she is a liar of large proportions.
Finally there is nothing deranged about not liking her. It is accepting her crap blindly without challenging it that is deranged.
Your point was that she was unreasonable in her contract demands. I suggest that she was not, based on my own experience having actually SEEN entertainment contracts. We all used to get a big kick out of their demands, from the EXACT amount of fruit they wanted to a specific kind of drinks down to the size of the bottle etc etc.
And yes, i agree about the ethicacy of hiring some one like Sara or Bill Clinton for that matter and paying them enormous amounts of money from companies/schools that are in dire financial straits and laying off workers.
Perhaps you should incur your wrath at the school and not Sarah..She didn’t MAKE them hire her did she?
She is an intellectual dwarf and a habitual liar, which is de riguer for almost ANY politician.
It makes me weep in despair ..
on a personal note:
I have been re-reading Manchesters “The Glory and The Dream’
and the 1930′ s is eerily similair to what is happening now.
from Father Coughlin to Huey Long to various conspiracies to the incredible hatred towards FDR…
Skippy,
If you think that is a bad contract, what do you think the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton get for speaking fees? At least with Palin you can understand her speaking even though you may disagree with it than Jesse Jackson.
Do me a favor, go to http://www.kfi640.com, and click to Listen and check out the podcast of the Tim Conway Jr. (son of actor Tim Conway) show. Every Thursday he has a segment of “What the Hell Did Jesse Jackson Say” and he pays clips from some of Jesse’s speeches and callers try to decipher what he says. As a Black man, who speaks “Jive” and the other dialect “Ebonics” I can barely understand what he is saying.
I bring this up becuase Jesse has made a fortune on contracts like Palin had, speaking at public forums and universities demanding the same contract clauses as Palin. Having friends who have worked at some of the venues where he has spoken, I know full well how they have to budget and make cuts just to get him to speak, even at the historically Black colleges and Universities who don’t have nearly the deep pockets that this school has. Same can be said for Al Sharpton. So the fact that they paid it, and even if you don’t like what she said you can still at least understand what she is saying is far better than what you would get from a Jesse. The only way you can get him free is to protest, and even then, he has made demands that certain conditions are met (hotels, etc) before he arrives.
My advise, if a hack like Jesse can make a buck for speaking when he can’t, you can’t say that Palin shouldn’t be allowed the same opportunity even though you don’t like her.
All I pointed out is that it is a lot. Your point about Jackson is quite valid-he’s not worth that amount of money either-no public figure is, even ex Presidents.
And its not like these guys need the money.
What I would point out though is a couple of things:
1) Palin quit her job with out even finishing one term. These contract details reinforce for me that she did it for one reason, to make money and cash in on her celebrity status.
2) Palin was already worth a fair amount of money due to her book deal. She also has a pretty good amount of property.
3) I think there is a double standard being applied here. Obama is supposed to deal with criticism on everthing, from things he controls (like his policy decisions) to things he doesn’t (like his birth certificate)-but ANY criticism of Palin is considered by her supporters is considered deranged. Palin gets upset about pieces like the Vanity Fair article, but doesn’t got the full distance and sue Michael Gross for libel. That’s because she could not win and VF knows it. There is enough on the record to back up his claims.
There are “good” conservatives with more chops than Palin. There are also some very good Republicans who could probably govern a lot more effectively than Obama has-but they will never get the chance because people are giving this particular slattern more weight than the real intellectual heavyweights in the party. That’s the same thing you guys begrudge about Obama.
Skippy,
GWB got blamed for Katrina, when the National Weather Service (Gov’t agency) and all along the way predictions were made that the storm was coming and precautions needed to be made. Yet he still got the blame.
As far as Obama’s birth certificate, if it is not an issue, just show it, along with his college transcripts. Everyone made a big deal over McCain’s academic standing in his USNA class, and the fact that he wrecked a few planes (I even had to discuss with my uncle that it was not his fault that he was shot down over Hanoi, probably had more to do with Haiphong Harbor being open letting the USSR off load missles, but he didn’t get that point). Yet we can find nothing about Obama.
My own hunch is that back when he was younger, Obama knew what hands he was dealt with and played the race/minority card to get ahead. From his own book, he mentions how he traveled to Pakistan on his Indonesian passport. Looking back at how many of the diversty programs work, you get points if you are a Black American. You get even better chances if you are black, but not American and call some other country home. The whole non-citizne thing can go a long way in getting you ahead in some university programs.
So he probably played those cards back in the 80’s, and it got him to where he needed to be. Trying to keep a lid on that, even if he was born in the USA but used a different passport to his advantage would cause him more trouble than he has now.
My prediction, if the Dems get slaughtered in November, and he is facing a difficult time in 2011, the Clinton “dirty tricks” book will come out, and it will be from that side in which all of his past records will come out.
My prediction is that if the GOP wins big-they will try another shutdown of government. Or an impeachment try. Either way it will tear the country apart.
Skippy, you’ll know that the lid will be ready to blow off the Obama Administration will Bill Clinton will be giving a speech in some foreign country that is highly critical of the Obama Administration. That will cause Hillary to resign her position as Sec State, and the 2012 campaign will be on then.
The only thing Obama will be able to do is to probably make Biden the Sec State, and replace him with a moderae Dem to try to even out his ticket to the Dems in the primaries.
But Biden is moderate. And, gaffes aside, I like him. The real problem is the Democratic base will not turn out feeling deserted by Obama’s pragmatic positions and the Rethiglicans and their brown shirts show up in force.
Oh God I do hope that if they get a majority they shut down the government. Everybody go home. No more money for you. The bureaucrats allocated to allocate the money stolen will not be able to parcel it out to the bedbugs and thieves so it won’t be wasted on a false stimuli. Take a couple of years off big government! Take a couple of decades off!
And the liberals will whine that this is ‘stealing’ peoples money. The deserving poverty stricken bankers, UAW scumbags, Pelosi’s husband, friends like that.
