And acknowledging an inconsistency the Tea Party needs to get its arms around. Take it away Ron Paul:
As many frustrated Americans who have joined the Tea Party realize, we cannot stand against big government at home while supporting it abroad. We cannot talk about fiscal responsibility while spending trillions on occupying and bullying the rest of the world. We cannot talk about the budget deficit and spiraling domestic spending without looking at the costs of maintaining an American empire of more than 700 military bases in more than 120 foreign countries. We cannot pat ourselves on the back for cutting a few thousand dollars from a nature preserve or an inner-city swimming pool at home while turning a blind eye to a Pentagon budget that nearly equals those of the rest of the world combined.
Our foreign policy is based on an illusion: that we are actually paying for it. What we are doing is borrowing and printing money to maintain our presence overseas. Americans are seeing the cost of this irresponsible approach as their own communities crumble and our economic decline continues.
Yet you see an inconsistency…..? Why?
I would withdraw every aspect of American power from Korea and Japan and Germany and Guam in a heartbeat. I would pull any alleged missile shield from them in the next heartbeat. No Asian power not in my pocket would get a dime. No Arab power would get a dime.
How hard was that?
I’m like perfectly OK if they want to kill each other over again. Been there, done that, don’t much care. They all hate us and I hate them back. Twice.
All those nations are despicable beyond reason and so far as I can tell, nothing has changed in 60 years.
When you think of replying, look at where our host was replying from. Deepest darkest socialism. A country so driven to madness that they shot not only the ceo but his wife too.
But its a different country now-they, like us, have a media that denounces it’s President routinely. ( And like Fox News if they have not got a story- they just make one up. It has been something we have had to be careful about on this project). They are going to hold a no confidence vote on the PM this month.
Like us they are in the middle of a recession and they have responded not with a stimulus, but an austerity program that is draconian. Most of the military people we are working with have taken a 25% pay cut and the Romanian Defense, Education, and Infrastructure ministries have all taken a cut. Its been very hard on the Romanian people. Unlike us they have a 24% VAT and whenever I have had to do a FEDEX in and out of here we have been nailed for customs duties.
I’d also say that most of the Tea Party does not feel that way-and in fact they advocate exempting defense spending from any cuts.
I’ll bet you can still buy a pack of cigarettes for under a $ in Romania.
At one time I smoked and swore I’d stop when it cost more than $10/carton and now I see a pack here in California goes for about $10.00. There’s a nice progressive tax.
But think how much healthy you will be.
no no. I’m a believer. Quit back when it reached $12/carton. Plus my X wheedled me into it.
