Far East Cynic

Reason 247

That I am glad I am not back in the states. (But it looks like I will be soon….. šŸ™ ).

Glenn Beck marching on the Mall to take back honor? Boy, that’s rich. Glenn Beck has no honor-save for his own pocket book. That is all he cares about. Somebody pour some tequila down this guy’s throat and get him back off the wagon.

Retaking the Civil Rights movement? It would be out-rightly ludicrous save for the sad fact thatĀ  sheep people will actually show up to this event. Ask yourself this one question:Ā Ā If today were 8/28/1963, do you think Glenn Beck would have joined the March on Washington in support of the equal treatment of all Americans, regardless of race or economic status?

Not a chance in hell.

This rally is about two things and two things only. Enriching Glenn Beck and staking the claim that Tea Baggers always make that they-regardless of whether it is true or not-are mere victims. Of what you may ask? Evil conspiracies to deprive them of their wealth, their health and to reduce their status in society. Evil liberal conspiracies. Never mind that a lot of conservatives- people just like them-made some pretty narrow minded decisions, in their holy of holies, the free market, that deprived them of a lot of wealth.

Cause if there is one thing Glenn Beck does not have it is any command of the facts.

Does Beck want to take the full mantle of Martin Luther King? As in becoming a martyr? Maybe that is his Ā long term plan, to keep jacking up the rhetoric until finaly some nut takes a weapon and shoots at him? I really wonder-especially when you hear the hysterical tone in his broadcasts.

Because at some point if one keeps us this “we” vs evil “them” rhetoric it will come to violence-of that I am becoming rapidly convinced. Politics in America has become so crazy, so polarized and so based on basic stupidity, that its only going to take some spark to set off the powder keg.

Which is exactly what Beck wants.Ā  It is not a new paradigm-in fact it is as old as time itself.Ā  In a sane world the ravings of Glenn Beck would be dismissed as the ravings of a lunatic. Sadly however, we live in a country with too many stupid people-who actually listen to what this buffoon says and believe him.

Well I will not be among those sheep on the Mall-screw you Glenn Beck. I hope it rains on your parade-literally.

  1. The real problem, at this point, is too many Americans don’t know the difference between entertainment (no matter how poor in Beck’s case) and politics for the extreme fringes rather than the majority of the nation who are not turning red in the face shouting.

  2. He’s a fracking fear-mongering idiot promoting his crazy libertarian ideals with blatant emotional button-pushing on a scale we having seen since… Dick Cheney?

And as for anyone who buys his book, well what can I say? –

‘The success of Glenn Beck’s novel, “The Overton Window,” will be measured not by its literary value (none), or its contribution to the thriller genre (small), or the money it rakes in (considerable), but rather by the rebelliousness it incites among anti-government extremists. If the book is found tucked into the ammo boxes of self-proclaimed patriots and recited at “tea party” assemblies, then Beck will have achieved his goal.’ Washington Post.

  3. You guys are pretty silly.

He and Dr. King and Sarah Palin are drawing in a pretty huge crowd now.

Do you three ever wonder if you’re the disturbed confused ignorant minority like the KKK?

    You HATE.

As far as I can tell, none of the conservatives HATE like you HATE.

You guys are a lot disturbed and you got your President and your Speaker of the House and your Head of the Senate and still, you HATE.

You guys remind me of the Germans of 39. You got it all and yet you still HATE.

You guys make me puke a little.

  4. Some things deserve to be hated. Sarah the whore and Glenn the liar are two. People have tried to reason with them-they don’t listen.

I will tell you what makes me puke a little-that supposedly people who should know better-like you Curtis, defend their useleness.

I don’t have MY president or Speaker or anything-we have the ones we have. If I had my way different people would be in charge-but because of idiots like Beck and worthless people who follow him we have the government we have. These people need to be woken up.

I am not disturbed. I am not the KKK. I just know I am right and I am smarter than your average American, whose IQ has dropped considerably in the past few years.

It is Beck who is like the Germans in 1939, stupid people following the rantings of a bad man. There is only one proper ending for a guy like that.

  5. Oh and right wing blogs are lying about the numbers AGAIN. They are saying 500,000 when in fact the total was 87,000 really deluded people. That still a pretty good showing for a cult full of stupid people.

  6. Skippy,
Instead of commenting on the size of Beck’s (crowd I mean) I think that you guys on the left should look at how small the crowd that Al Sharpton generated. Not nearly as many. I am from the same “tribe” as Sharpton, and I can tell you that all of the hype he has been yelling today is somewhat bogus. I remember comments that you have posted on Diverstiy in the Navy, and yet you let the likes of Sharpton get away with his rally for urging for more diversity.

Though I don’t see eye to eye on Beck and Paline, at least he was sounding more of a preacher than the so called “Rev. Al” The last time I looked in the Bible, Jesus understood that there were differences and that we should no show malice to one another since we all have access to the Kingdom (that whole speech about the Gentiles and the Greeks, slaves and masters thing). Yet, the only thing Sharpton can yell about is more money for programs that don’t work. Show me a disgruntled Tea Partier, and I can show you in my own family someone who is on the dole, and has no inclination to get off it, and expects that it is owed to them (though they never have worked a day, and support the Obama T-shirts daily).

So, let us know what you think of the Sharpton rally since you are so in the air against Beck. By the way, what I picked up from Sharpton was that he was pretty sore that Beck beat him to the Lincoln Memorial before his march.

  7. Well the fact that Beck beat him to the memorial is kind of a sad testimony to the state of the movement-or it could be a glorious sign that King’s dream is coming true and they don’t need a “movement” any more. The rest of the country finally gets it.

But with Beck, there is real reason to be concerned. Sharpton’s march is not brewing a future Timothy Mc Veigh. Beck’s is. When I see his crowd I see bitter enders-people who are incapable of acknowledging the fact that the world has changed and the US has to change with it. Furthermore his religiosity aside, he has a lot of scripture wrong.

There is nothing original or especially interesting about Beck’s prescriptions. Many of his conspiracy theories are simply incorrect. That so many stupid people believe them is the problem.

  8. Curtis: jeeze, who said anything about HATE? Someone’s emotional buttons get pressed?

I have no respect for the man’s ideas, belief system and attested moral superiority is all. But there are lots of people I have no respect for, lots of ideas I have no respect for, lots of belief systems I have no respect for, lots of claims of moral superiority I have respect for. Beck just saves me the trouble of having to spread that disrespect around so much.

To re-quote myself – “he’s a fracking fear-mongering idiot.” But there are lots of them out there.

(Skip, I was going to mention the obvious attraction of Beck’s ideas to people like McVeigh, but I didn’t want anyone to ‘blow’ an aneurysm!)

  9. To me Beck has a clue. He may know the the truth. Just does not care.

The wonderful monograph “On Bullshit” discusses truthtellers, liars, and bullshitters. Liars and truthtellers share a common knowledge of and respect for the truth. The buillshitter care neither knows or cares about the truth. His only interest is self interest. Sara Palin fits into this catagory also.

The demographics of the gathering were interesting: white and older. Says a lot to me about the broad based support: lack thereof..

  10. Skippy, to say Sharpton’s March was not growing the next future Mc Veigh, I guess you think the whole story of the Black Panthers at the polling place in Philly during the 2008 election is another Fox News invention.

I went to a parade on the MLK birthday that coincided with the inaguration of Obama, and yes it was in the “Hood.” If you think the signs that you see at a Beck or Tea Party rally are brewing the next McVeigh, then you hadn’t seen anything. The posters of Obama along with the classic portrait that can be found in any Black home in the 60’s & 70’s (it is an old joke on the Black side of things) of King, JFK, RFK, and LBJ sitting in pose, you could see the same images of Obama the same way, just like you would see in any Third World country with their “Dear Leader” looking at the masses and passing peace.

I don’t think Beck’s movement will brew the next Mc Veigh. I particularly don’t like him nor do I care for Palin, but I do respect what they did and do feel that things need changing, and the faster we start realizing that it is ok to disagree with each other and not have to be all or none like grade school kids, I think the country will be better off.

  11. But Beck and the others have taken it beyond merely disagreeing with each other. They have made it so that if one does disagree with them-then it is unpatriotic or worse. They have taken the tactics that they decry when they see them on the left and used them tenfold. Conservatives were supposed to be better than that. But they no longer are. Actually they have become the same as Sharpton. There really is no difference. Dishonest or stupid. Take your pick. I’m comfortable with labelling them either way.

It is the people who need to change and the American people need to grow up and realize the world has changed. Because voters empower stupid people we get the government we get. There is no need to re-claim it, just to actually use it the way the Consititution intended. And that does not mean abandoning the majority to the whims of the minority.

  12. E@L,

I’ve directed the question to Skippy and asked why he purely hates and despises Sarah Palin and his reply has been, again and again, that she deserves his hate and disgust.

    No specifics. Just HATE.

    ditto Beck. Just HATE.

You asked. I’ll answer. HATE that comes that hard from a hard leftist is akin to the HATE spawned by people who HATE and despise Jews. They have no reason that they can explain the hate, they just HATE.

And yeah, E@L, Skippy has made it pretty clear that he hates a pretty little woman who never ever did him a single bit of harm with a PASSION. He outright despises a woman who never did a single solitary thing to him.

    Asked and answered.

    1. Curtis,

I’ve told you several times why I don’t like them-they are both frauds and dangerous to this country. They represent everything that is wrong with our current political process AND the fact that so many people are deluded by them is a very poor commentary on the overall level of education and sophistication of the American voter.

Beck has lied, Palin has lied-in Palin’s case the list of documented falshoods is over 50 and increasing. Beck is a demagogue who is very dangerous-his ideas are dangerous, his means of delivering those ideas are dangerous.

These people, if allowed to succeed will lead the country to ruin more assuredly than the current administration will. That is why it is imperative to oppose them at every opportunity and expose them as the reckless frauds that they are.

Now maybe you think that is hatred. I call it a principled stand based on the preponderance of facts. It is not my fault you are unable to see that.

  13. Skippy,

You wrote, “But Beck and the others have taken it beyond merely disagreeing with each other. They have made it so that if one does disagree with them-then it is unpatriotic or worse.”

From where I sit their declaring people ‘unpatriotic’ is surely no worse than you declaring people you disagree with ‘evil’.

  14. Skippy,
I am sure that if you look at MSNBC and Keith Olberman or any of the other shows on the non Fox network, you will see more name calling and polarization than you would on FOX. Fox at least has the guts to air a hack like Geraldo or Al Sharpton on the air to offer their opinions, but you never see anything like that on the left.

What is more important, this rally showed that the right can muster a crowd, and not rely on Union goons and alleged cases of racism to get people together, not like on the left. They have the SEIU on speed dial, and yet they couldn’t muster an equal crowd to counter Beck. That is probably what is really irking the left, that for once the right has beat them at their own game. And guess what, no John McCain was there nor Rush.

  15. Expat,

You saw our host’s post. He HATES.

I suppose hate is fashionable in war and politics but to hate a woman who never did one iota of damage to you is a little over the top. Sort of like hating Karl Rove. He never did one iota of damage to anybody since he was never more than an adviser.

Our host reads the stuff, follows the news of the adversary and they are filled with hatred. I check Drudge periodically and the hate filled media runs about 1/3 to 1/5 of media following persons. I don’t watch TV but to see the MSM try to downplay Fox and the real news service: Priceless.

  16. She done plenty of damage to me and to the country. What is there to like?

    1) She poisoned politics in this country for ever. She did nothing to restrain the ugly forces that were unleashed in the campaign.

    2) She cost John McCain the election and has made it sure that reasonable Republicans cannot ever show up in town again. That directly affects me and other smart people who don’t like what the Republican party has become.

    3) She cannot take criticism-in fact she goes out of her way to attack her critics, not by force of ideas but by the same slurs you accuse me of.

    4) She could become President which would directly affect me and screw the country with the buffoons she would appoint to her administration. Wasn’t one clueless President in office, who started two wars enough?

5.) She is a fraud.. That hurts us all. Your contention that she has done no damage is way off the mark.

  17. I thought the ugly in that campaign was brought by Hillary cankles Clinton. I could be wrong though.

Wonder about the won who spent, what was it? 7 months deliberating the question of reinforcing the Af war. Decisive aint he? Sarah would wack a mole in a heart beat.

Saw the story early this am about 9 potential terrorists being removed from a flight in FL and it turns out later in the afternoon that they were a Pakistani military delegation headed by a RADM enroute to conference with us. Called home after full humiliation by TSA and the govt told them to just come home. Administration of morons, appointed morons and thieves and employs morons. Never saw anything like that in the Bush years.
