For now you can visit Ameyoko, which is a neighborhood near Ueno Station. A great place to people watch and buy things for less money.

What’s up with the Rising Sun Flag / Battleship T-Shirt? Is this somehow similar to the Confederate stuff we see on sale in your current location?
I can’t read the Japanese caption obviously, but if it says “Forget, Hell!”, it would make my day.
Markets the world over are the best places to not only people-watch but to really get a feel for where you are……thank you so much for posting the photos. May I ask, what is the building with the half-dome on the roof? A museum? Train station? It has a marked Indian flavour………just wondered.
JR-The shirt has to be read right to left. It is a picture of the battleship Yamato. And if you read right to left (which was the way old Japanese was read it says: Sen-kan Yamato.) BTW the Rising Sun flag is still the flag of the JMSDF and flies from all Japanese ships,
Loon-The building you are talking about is a temple-it was built in 1931 during the Showa era. It is a Buddhist temple. The original temple was lost in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, and the present temple that replaced it, with its Indian architectural motif, was designed by Itoh Chuta , Professor of the Faculty of Architecture at Tokyo University. The construction began in the year 1931 and was completed in 1934, displaying the fervent devotion of the Shinshu followers.
It is named Tsukiji Honganji.
Thank you for the explanation and the link.
