Far East Cynic

Can’t get this song out of my head.

Phib had this video on his blog. He’s right- Music to invade Poland by.
Now I can’t get the song out of my head. Enjoy!

Which reminds me-in the car driving to Brussels the S.O. asked me why Belgium was so flat.

“Because the Germans liked invading through it”, I replied. Which I-rather shocked-then had to explain to her. She knows NOTHING about World War II-or World War I either. Seems they leave that little part out in Japanese High Schools……..

  1. I thought I’d posted that video last week – ah well, that must have been to Facebook.

The Belgians deserved a thorough flattening after what they did to the Congo, IMHO. A lot of what’s wrong in Africa today stems from the genocide there. And the French in Algeria. And the English and Dutch in South Africa and Rhodesia. And the Germans in East Africa. To say nothing of the New Zealanders in Australia!

    Vunderbar!

  2. Yea but its been 50+ years the Africans have had the place to themselves. It is still pretty screwed up. Also, Algeria has the burden of Islam which the French at least tried to remove from them……

  3. Y’all seem to be afflicted with stupid. What Leopold and Belgium did in the Congo–bad. What Congo did in the Congo–dire evil. What the Dutch and British did in S. Africa after the Zulu’s exterminated the locals…..kind of like a bake sale. Move in, push off a hand full of losers and create a civilization. You guys want to move in to Zimbabwe? Keen to move in to the new S. Africa?

When/if you guys sober up? Consider. Europeans moved into Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada and created a marvel that resonates to this day. They did the same in India and countless other places. The only benighted place that utterly rejected civilization is……wait for it………….Africa. EOL and Skippy gloss over the simple fact that at the same time that England was creating places like Singapore and Hong Kong and Rhodesia it was also trying to create the same thing in Kenya and Nigeria and Egypt.

  4. Umm, you need to check your history a little bit. India is hardly a marvel-at least not the last few times I was there. Singapore did not pick up its current niceness till after inderpendence and the advent of Lee Kwan Yew’s dictaorship. Hong Kong today is nothing like it was 60 years ago.

Don’t get me wrong-I wish the British Empire was still around and India still had a Viceroy, but it is important to be honest about what it was really like.

  5. Skippy,

It ain’t perfect but with the English, all that remains is uplifting. When your thoughts turn to international vacation are you more likely to consider the former Red States or strike out for X Belge, X France, X Spain, X German?
