All things considered-the weekend was pretty good. However, one thing that eluded me was why every place was somewhat crowded. Then we went down to the boat ramp at the park we were staying in………… I found out why. This weekend was the Pro Bass fishing tournament.
Lest anyone get on a high horse and accuses me of elitism- I have no issue with bass fishing; I just cannot afford a boat, is all. And it did not look to me like the folks fishing from the shore was catching much. But- I’ll tell you what- they sure had a lot of advertisers out for the tournament. I never even heard of these guys:
But we did have a good dinner Friday night. At a “locals” place in Guntersville called Crawmama’s. Everyone at work had told me to go, and they were right. So let’s go inside and look around.
Now Crawmama’s strikes me as the kind of place where it …started as a local joint-but got a reputation. It was not too crowded when we got there. That soon changed. However, we still got a seat pretty quickly. The atmosphere-its kind of homey:
The food, though, is pretty good, and the service is pretty good too. So of course, we started with some drinks:
And the S.O. looked pretty good too:
Now Crawmama’s being a proper southern establishment-they had every kind of fried seafood imaginable. However, they also had steak and seafood and an assortment of what they would call in New England “Steamer buckets.” We opted for splitting one of those:
Yea, Yea-I know crab is not native to Guntersville Lake-but it was on the menu. And we both like a crab. We also split some gumbo-which was very, very, good:
Crawfish, shrimp, rice and okra, and many spices.
Because the S.O. is allergic to Oysters, thus I don’t get to eat them often- I also elected to have some Fried Oysters. They were big and not overcooked.:
They had Key Lime pie for dessert, but after two Margaritas, all the food-I was done.
The restaurant is located in the Southern part of Guntersville-and if you go on a weekend, go early-it gets filled up fast.
OMG they look so good…..I do miss good ol’ southern cookin’…I love my gumbo with tonnes of tabasco…
There is an article in the April 24 th issue of the WSJ under
“The Expat Life” By Paul titled ‘Who knew”?
I thought of you and the SO…
It talks about expats returning to the states and how, at least in some cases (including my one), that nobody cares to hear about your “adventures” in another country.
Got a link to it?
online.wsj.com….go to “world” then search and put in The Expat Life and its the second article.
Thanks.
