More Vienna..

On the way to Prague this afternoon. For some strange reason you have to go to the south station to get to Prague which is North. Don’t ask me-that’s where the train runs from.

Yesterday though was a good day. We followed up on our Schonbrun visit, by taking the time to go to Hofburg, and spend most of the day in that area. Well worth the time.

Started off by making our way to the park behind the National Library:

Our friend Wolfgang was there to greet us:

After which we began the long way around to get to the Imperial Apartments and the Sici museum. First we visited St. Augustine’s Church:

From there, past the Spanish Riding school-we did not see any type of show, wrong day, wrong time of day-but we did get to see the stalls and some of the horses. I’m not so sure we were supposed to be where we were-but hey, when the door is open……………..

Which led us to the to the back side of the riding school:

Then to the front of the Hofburg (sort of ):

We then spent the next 2 hours touring the museum. There are three parts to the tour, the dishes, the apartments, and the Sici museum. Sisi for those who do not know was Empress Elisabeth of Austria who was the wife of Emporer Franz Joseph.

Now by my estimate, we spent too long in the china part and not enough in the apartments. The audio tour, just like the previous day was extremely detailed-which is suprising in a way. Still, its worth the time to visit-just beware if you go, to budget about 2 hours.

Afterwards-it was time for coffee and a streudel:

Pretty good-if sinful in terms of calories!

Then onward to see more things. The Opera House:

And St. Peters-which in my opinion was the most beautiful church we saw-the art inside was great!

Can’t for get Karl’s Church either-near Karlsplatz:

A night time stroll down the Graben:

Which finally brought us to the Christmas market at Maria Thersea Platz. Whereupon I stumbled onto an interesting political statement. Think the Patriot Act is causing problems? Somebody in Austria must be really worried about Big Brother:

The market:

And while I have over 40 more pix-its probably time to stop.
