Far East Cynic

Another long day……..

And the market continues to sink.

But John McCain says that he can take the bailout-that the greedy bastards on Wall Street don’t give thanks for-and use it for mortgages.

And then he thinks it’s ok to treat my health insurance from my employer as income. For that there are only two words:

BITE ME!

My company owes me that benefit. As does the US government-because I earned it.

But instead of a useful debate on that subject, we have to listen to him whine about how great the surge was -which was never a surge and oh by the way, did not buy us a ticket home from Iraq. And we have to listen to the shrew and her snide remarks. I just hate hearing her on TV. When I see her on the tube I just want to reach through the screen and shake her.

Because she is an incorrigible liar.

McCain erred gravely in putting her on the ticket. She runs a state that is demographically unlike any other state-and awash with federal pork. Some of which she went out to get. She is an ambitious woman who got lucky.

Sometimes I want Obama to win-just so she would lose, and then 2 years from now she loses the Governorship. That would be sweet.

However the problem with Obama is that you get Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi as part of the deal. And Pelosi is as big a jerk as Palin-probably more so. That brings me back to reality.

However I want this election to be about repudiating the last 8 years of misrule-and the market troubles are simply the latest example.

I’d love to ask Palin the question Tom Friedman asks:

Criticizing Sarah Palin is truly shooting fish in a barrel. But given the huge attention she is getting, you can’t just ignore what she has to say. And there was one thing she said in the debate with Joe Biden that really sticks in my craw. It was when she turned to Biden and declared: “You said recently that higher taxes or asking for higher taxes or paying higher taxes is patriotic. In the middle class of America, which is where Todd and I have been all of our lives, that’s not patriotic.”

What an awful statement. Palin defended the government’s $700 billion rescue plan. She defended the surge in Iraq, where her own son is now serving. She defended sending more troops to Afghanistan. And yet, at the same time, she declared that Americans who pay their fair share of taxes to support all those government-led endeavors should not be considered patriotic.

I only wish she had been asked: “Governor Palin, if paying taxes is not considered patriotic in your neighborhood, who is going to pay for the body armor that will protect your son in Iraq? Who is going to pay for the bailout you endorsed? If it isn’t from tax revenues, there are only two ways to pay for those big projects — printing more money or borrowing more money. Do you think borrowing money from China is more patriotic than raising it in taxes from Americans?” That is not putting America first. That is selling America first.

A pox on both of them.

  1. The quote was directed at Americans making over $250K, “it’s time to be patriotic …”

What gets lost is that he later said, he and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama want to “take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class …

When your system is redistibution of wealth (“take money”) it turns into class warfare and the bottom feeders will demand more and more.

I too thought it was a big mistake on McCane to suggest that the government should be buying up mortgages.

Here we have a second check being sent to AIG, government answer to everything, throw money at it and if that’s not good enough, throw some more. Just look at education today, evertime the fed “gives” money to education it comes with rules and mandates and most times these rules have nothing to do with making kids get a better education.

Americans should be mad as hell about the mess that we are in.

  2. and we are.
I must have read over two dozen opinions by “experts” and why we got into this mess and how to get out. No surprise that they all differ.
    The obvious: Fear is rampant.
The bottom is suppossed tobe at 8000-8500 and we tested that today.
I am scared, VERY ,VERY scared.

  3. I was not concerned till today. Thanks to the USFSPA I was hoping that my TSP would offset my retirement loss. Now I am begining to worry. And I still have some time to go before retirement.

  4. Gerald McRaine (actor and former Marine) while on the sitcom Major Dad once said he was glad to pay his taxes. It was his duty and how he got paid.

I don’t understand how anyone as ridiculous as herself can get on the ticket and then I remember Dan “Potatoe” Quayle.

    Unbelievable!

    OAM

  5. I’m certainly glad now that I left all my TSP in the G Fund when all my cohorts were bragging about how well the I Fund has been doing. Well? How’s the I Fund doing now?

  6. I do not complain about paying taxes for one simple reason…every pay check (except for some adjunct college teaching) I have received my adult life has come from tax dollars…either as an Army officer or a defense contractor. Federal and state tax dollars paid for a big chunk of my college education…to include grad school.

From my way of thinking I would be a self centered son of a bithc of an ingrate to complain about how tax dollars get spent. Taxes are the price we pay to live in a civilized society. And unless you are going to go live in a cabin a la Ted Kozinski you take something from the coffers when you use roads, go to school or have your kids go to school, have the police and fire departments protect you and your home not fall down around you head.

  7. The context of Biden’s statement was “high taxes.” It comes down to taxes being paid for government necessities vs income redistribution.

Socialists think lawlessness is fine, and anything they want the gov to do is just peachy. That nasty thing known as the constitution is simply a minor inconvenience, and both parties ignore it when it is expedient to do so. Both parties are left of center, the Reps are simply closer to the center and so appear “right wing.” Both see the constitution as a “living” document, which simply means it has no meaning.

I don’t mind paying taxes for what needs to be done. The constitution describes the functions of the fedgov, and it has been ignored. So if Biden, or anyone else, for that matter, wants to say paying high taxes is patriotic, I will call that individual idiotic and anti-American because unnecessary taxation is not just unamerican, but anti-american.

So sorry if this offends anyone of the lunatic left.

  8. The key word is unnecessary taxation, and I think you would find that Biden would agree with you on that. Having a government balance its budget and perform required services is a far cry from unnecessary raising of revenue.

The Constitution sets the basis from which the Federal government acts-however it also gave the Branches liberty to do what is required by situation. The system of checks and balances was supposed to prevent one branch from going too far.

It is interesting you used the word “Socialist”. There are no Socialists running in this election. I do recognize as Republican “dog whistle” word-designed to denigrate those who actually agree with Biden.

If the Republican party is left of center-then why do they pick a bitch like Palin simply to appease their so-called base?
