Far East Cynic

A great opportunity….

To do something nice for some really hard working Americans.

One of my readers is organizing an effort to send e-mails to Sailors who are deployed. In case you have not noticed, and judging by the mil blog posts-many of you have not-the Navy is just as busy as the Army and Marines these days. Sure it takes them to some nice places, but it is also keeping them out at sea, away from home, working the long hours being at sea requires. Especially when you are on a destroyer.

So Jim has come up with a letters from home project. He is shooting for 250 e-mails to Sailors. In this effort he has teamed up with LCDR Chris Avery ( who I had the privledge of buying more than couple of beers for a year or so back) who is now serving as XO of USS Russell and has started a blog for the ship.

If you have time to surf here (and I hope you do), you have time to send an e-mail to this location. Tell a Sailor hi, that you are thinking of them, and that their work is appreciated. Or send them a story about what you are doing wherever you live. Ask them where they are going and pass along good places to go at their next port of call. (E @ L-this means you.)

I should not have to remind anyone that Thumper’s rule*  applies here. Send me your hate mail-not them. They are doing God’s work and I would be happy to join them. (Well at least for a little while…….).

*Thumper’s rule- If you cannot say something nice,  don’t say anthing at all…………………

  1. And the Navy always has been.

I think back to the ’90s when most of the Army was sitting in garrison, while we deployed year after year.

    Great idea…

A good friend of mine is XO on HOUSTON. I am going to float this idea by him to see if they would like some of this action…

Yep — sure didn’t hear anything about Army IA’s going to the Gulf on grey hulls did we…

  3. Let’s not forget that the Army did have that whole little Somalia thing. Plus they ate the USS Eisenhower out of house and home, when the 10th Mountain rode LCVN-69 down to Haiti. 🙂

And they did take back the Panama Canal-only to give it away, again.
