Nikko Trip…….

For once I remembered to take my digital camera with me. So Sourrain cannot bug me yet again for forgetting pictures ( especially with all the yummy food pix she posts on her site!).

Transit time with two train changes was just under 3 hours-is this a great country or what? The weather was simply beautiful and the leaves were just beginning to turn. Only down side was all the traffic on the road up to the lake, which made going up to the waterfall prohibitive from a time standpoint. (It would have been a 90 minute bus ride each way with traffic……..). Since we wanted to get back to Asakusa for dinner we decided to forgo it and see the temples in detail.

Look below the fold to see some beautiful sights. Thank God I live in a country with great train service!

Back in Asakusa-After dinner walk!

  1. A very Happy Birthday to the S.O. this weekend, and I hope that your trip, ‘though a short one, is a time of peace and happiness for you both…at the very least, a truce.

As previously mentioned, you take excelllent photographs which are most welcome by one who has never visited Japan. This is not criticism, but as you are there…and your site is based there…a suggestion for your consideration, please. The photograph of Shinkyou Bashi is my favourite. The serene beauty you’ve captured fills the soul, even through the PC. Thank you, sir.

P.S. That is without a doubt the cleanest-looking train I’ve ever seen!

  2. Nikko is one of my favorite destinations in Japan. A really beautiful area. I took the train there before from Asakusa station but I actually made it to Nikko in about 2 hours. I love the trains in the Japan, there is no better way to get around.

Did you walk across the bridge? My wife and I the first time we went to Nikko thought that was the entrance to the park and paid the fee just to find out it was just a fee to walk across the bridge and not the entrance to the park which would have to pay another fee for.

  3. Ahhhh….I like!

Well done skipps!! Very nice shots..the trains sure are a change from amtrak 😉

And a happy birthday to SO, may she get strands and strands of pearls for her birthday,or whatever her poison is :).
