Far East Cynic

We have crossed over into the Alternate Universe.

In Star Trek, there is a story line about the alternate universe. One where the Enterprise serves the Terran Empire-and not the Federation.

It would seem that the US Navy has crossed over into that universe.

In the alternate universe of Star Trek, treachery is the norm and people move up by assassinating their superiors.  Witness the proof that it happens in  the Navy in this universe as well.

First it was the CO of USS Enterprise ( ironic considering), now they are moving up the ladder:

Commentary here.

  1. Skippy,
We've been re-assigned to Stuttgart. Will be moving your way once school is closed here this June. Deirdre will be teaching at the K-8 grade school on Boeblingen.
Hopefully the hiring freeze will end and I might be able to find a job there.
    Stork

  2. Great news. Let me know if I can do anything to help make your transition smoother. Hiring freeze is still on here-but there may be some openings in the fall. There are definitely no jobs in Japan. Help me find a job there and you can have mine.;-)

  3. Skippy,
From what I am hearing, DoD will left the hiring freeze at the end of this month or sometime next month. However, my sources have told me that CNIC will keep the hiring freeze in place. My suggestion to you, if you are looking for Japan, stay away from CNIC.

  4. The guy that made the initial report of abuse is the same one that torpedoed the guy that replaced you at CFWP.

  5. Jason,

That may be-but from what I heard, he also did not do himself any favors with the boss. Not showing up and not being present when the flag is present for a big meeting -just to go fly- is a bad way to keep him off of your back.

You cannot-in that particular job strive to be the high man on flight hours-or try to build up hours for your ATP. I could have been flying when I was there, in hindsight, I am glad I chose not to. It freed up time to be available to do other things. Having to work with the crowd at Misawa was hard enough-and you had to be on your guard at all times. I can’t help but think if he had had the face to face turnover I tried to give him (but he declined)-we would have been able to avoid all that later trouble.

  6. Maurice,

I am not surprised. They can’t justify avoiding living by the 5 year rule otherwise-and the “mafia” does not want to let any newcomers in.

FYI the Army has a job in Korea for someone with your skill set-check it out.

  7. Maurice beat me to the punch. You could go to Korea, only a C-17 hop away from Japan. You could watch your SO really squirm when she lands in Korea as an added benifit.

  8. I’ve been trying to get to Korea-I either make certs and hear nothing. Or don’t make certs and still here nothing. So far not even so much as a nibble. Besides-with the exception of the Corps of Engineers I don’t see many adverts in Korea for the level I am looking for.

  9. The S.O. really dreads the idea of going to Korea. She is convinced Koreans will tie her up and burn her at the stake. But , no she is not racist. Just ask her. 🙂

  10. Skippy,
I think I saw that one with DCMA, and applied. I also just applied for one out in Johnston Atoll, just for “shits and giggles.” I looked at it and it’s only a 2 year tour. I would think of it as DGAR with the wife, since they allow dependents and have a DoDDs school there and family housing. The only thingis that there are no cars and you are dependent on the flights in and out of Hickam or Hono Int. I don’t think it would be bad there for 2 years, but I wonder if family can come and visit. But, if I don’t make the cert for that one no problem. I would think a person with your skill sets now would be sent out there since your type of work is what they do.

Check out their web site and take at it. I could do that for 2 years.

  11. Skippy, USACE is pretty much a tough nut to crack. There are multiple RIFs going on throughout the organization so they are trying to shift people into open positions as much as possible. If you are a PE, RA or PMP they might look at you and set up an interview. Keep trying because they are trowing folks out of there that have been homesteading more than 7 years.

  12. Maybe it is me, but it would appear our Navy is being manned by senior officers who are a bunch of p#$$ies. As a JO, I worked on the staff for a numbered fleet and the old man could be cantankerous, but if the bubble went, you knew you had someone who would do his dead level best to win and bring everyone back and he trained his commanders that way. Listened (no video in those days) to a couple of warfare commander debriefs and they were a lot more blunt and forceful than anything in your link. I watched him rip a new one on a JO who was briefing strictly because the guy wouldn’t answer a direct question (multiple times); thought he was protecting his boss.

Not being a ship driver in any way, sounded like he was right on about the speed transiting the Straights of Malaca. Don’t care if you selected for a CVN, you still have to use some common sense and it sounds like the flag had some more than the boat driver.

Maybe I am still stupid and naive, but it sure sounds as though we are a declining Naval power when this is how and why we “investigate”. Nimitz is probably turning over in his grave.
