Far East Cynic

A great day for America!

I stayed up all night drinking and watching the news. I passed out fell asleep about 5AM.

Woke up to the joyous news that the USA had been saved from the selfishness of its citizens.

Obama won!

I am so happy-and so hung over.

God bless America!

1. I have a faint hope that the peoples business will finally get done. This will cause both political parties to gnash their teeth and claim the world is coming to an end. For the people, the economy will improve, the deficit will be addressed, taxes will still be there with some minor tweeking. We will continue to be a strong player both at home and abroad. Then there will be the next election cycle where there will be liars lying and the peoples work comes to a grinding halt. Cynical, but overall I am satisfied with the outcome and hope the 80% who are not hyper partisian will get what they need with out the hue and cry of the rabid 20%. Then again, I still believe in the Easter Bunny and the Great Pumpkin.

2. Listening to a person that has some great insight on things political and economical, he guesses that the economy will begin to really turn around in about the 3rd quarter in 2015. That is the beauty of the American economy. It will self correct. Romeny, would have been able to remove some of the "speed strips" along the way that would slow the growth, and Obama will probably put in place measures that will slow the progress, but it will somehow get better. The real question is, which party do you want to be in power to claim credit for this? If it is the Dems, even though they have done things to slow the recovery they will get the claim that they saved the economy, much like Clinton was able to reap the benefits from the Regana/Bush years. If it was the GOP, they will be able to say that it was their policies that saved it.
We will somehow survive another 4 years of Obama. But I say this Skippy, you speak on the big picture issues from your point of view, but I have seen what economic dependency from the government does to a community first hand. If the GOP were making claims that the USA will turn into a place like Greece, come down into some of the "ethnic" communities that I come from, and see first hand what government dependency really does. It's a lot worse than you think.

3. Triletter is on to something. Somehow or another we would have survived Romney. However would not have been pretty. The conservative radical social agenda would have reversed lot of reasonable rational just gains made by women and other groups. The economy is improving on most all metrics. And I suspect will continue. Middle East will continue to hae no good solution.
We and the world will be better served by Obama and his mainly centrist policies. Let us hope th GOP will abandon its white male elitist policies and include all of us.

Not going t hold my breath .

4. Maurice, I am sick to death of the "government dependency" argument. Its crap-and it is especially crap when assbags like Hinderaker make it. See, it’s not that their candidate was horrible, or that their institutional racism cost them pickup opportunities with minorities or that women like living in the 21st century, it’s ZOMG, SOCIALISM! That’s the worst of the logical fallacies, but it’s not the least of them.

The Republicans could have won this election had they not caved into the spoiled pigs who occupy the tea party. They have to rise up and repudiate these assholes once and for all and return to the center. Then they might be in a position to wipe the floor with the Democrats.

Romney would have done nothing to remove "speed bumps" and what his policies would have done would have been to lay the foundation for an even bigger collapse in 2015. He wouldn't have cared though because his rich friends would have taken a lot of money in the meantime. Thankfully a majority of the voters saw through his bullshit-and quite correctly understood that this mess is primarily due to Bush's policies that have not yet been undone. All that is left now is to take Boehner and Cantor out to a gallows and move on.

5. WHAT RADICAL SOCIAL AGENDA?! JESUS CHRIST, YOU CAN'T BE SO SIMPLE YOU BELIEVE WHAT YOU HEAR FROM THE PRESS?
There's always a few wingnuts but for crying out loud look at the make up of the supreme soviet court. Maybe 3% of the republican voters had a social wingnut issue that terrifies you to death but most people just wanted a little fiscal sanity.
It's Boehner's fault? How? I'm gonna watch in AMAZEMENT as the cocksuckers in the Senate and the White House try to freeze the republicans out of the wheeling and dealing associated with getting a budget through the Congress just as they did with obamacare. I can see it now, "those mean ole rethuglicans refused to play ball with us and went home." In short, unless you can find even a single man of good will in the democratic leadership to understand that it takes the House to initiate any spending bills and that by Golly means maybe playing nice with the mean ole lazy kids over there, it's gonna be interesting.
Fun though. Astute, sober, carefully reasoned and debated bills originating in the House only to die in the Senate, not because of any filibuster but just because. Remember where and how the sequestration came about. Somebody was not dealing in good faith. That tends to come back and bite since not even a republican is so lost to reality that he doesn't at some point start to observe with just the dimmest of flickers of thought that there isn't any pony in there…
Fun times.

6. I forgot the funniest bit though. The republicans in the house don't have anything to lose by picking up their marbles and moseying on down the timeline. Guys like skippy and foggy have already declared them all to be worse than toxic waste and I sure as hell don't want them hanging around town playing for the democrats if that means they just sell out the country. It's probably not worth going to the office for a republican senator. May just as well stay home.

7. "Astute, sober, carefully reasoned and debated bills originating in the House only to die in the Senate, not because of any filibuster but just because."
That's laugh. The reson they die in the Senate is that they are never should have seen the light of day in the first place. All the House contiunes to do is recycle versions of Paul Ryan's cruelty. This election makes it clear that a majority of Americans reject the approach of the zombie eyed Granny starver.
So yes it is Boehner's fault. And all these other assholes who think that protecting tax breaks for rich bastards is more important than passing a budget. Its simple. Let the Bush tax cuts expire for everyone, make cuts to bring the budget more in balance and move forward in a compromise mode. They won't get anywhere with just sticking to their guns about tax cuts.

Skippy, I agree with you somewhat. But I am telling you that there is a serious social problem with some ethnic communities that rely on government dependence. I present to you a very clear case, Rep Jesse Jackson Jr. was reelected to his house seat. Jackson Jr. is currently in the Mayo clinic, supposedly being treated for bipolar disorder, but the main reason was that he was caught up inth Blagovich scandal of trying to buy Obama's Senate seat when he was elected in 2008. Jackson Jr. was under FBI probe for corruption, and yet he plays like he is ill, and hadn't been to work for the people of his district for a year and a half since his last election. The area that he represents, is one of the Chicago areas with a very high crime rate and various other social ills. Yet, this guy was able to get reelected. Was it because the people of his district are "Low Information Voters," probably so. What if were to run on the GOP ticket in that area, and were to have a platform of social responsibility, and weening one self off of government assistance. I wouldn't win, as evidenced by the election yesterday.
People there know that as long as they keep voting people like Jackson Jr. in, they don't have to worry about anything getting cut, and more social programs that benefit a few will continue to flow in, all the while the majority of people get screwed over.

9. Skippy, and one more thing, Jackson Jr. never showed up in his district to campaign. He won easily by not even putting any effort into it.

10. "Americans are stupid"
"Americans will vote against their self interest" is what a wise man has been saying for a long ttime on his blog and the results of this election proves his wisdom again.

11. Hiya Skippy!

It's fun to look at the post mortems, opinons, bloviating radio
hosts, etc. But I really like the article written by Kay Bailey
Hutchinson, R-Tex, at Politico today. I have included a reader
comment of this article as the comment is 100% on target. The GOP
ignores the words of this commentator at their own peril.

Article begins with a quote from Hutchinson:

We had Republican candidates who got very high-profile and said some
very stupid things, Hutchison said. I think that really tainted
the party.

And then the comment that is 100% correct.

Senator Hutchison, the truth that you avoid is this:

These Republican candidates got very high-profile because they
were chosen by the members of your party, who fully understood their
agenda, their values, and their principles and they understood
and agreed with the mindset that all these policies are based in.

The truth that you avoid is that these very high-profile Republican
candidates said the honest and accurate truth about what the
majority of conservative Republicans believe, and why they
believe it.

The truth you avoid is that all these candidates the majority of
the candidates your party put forward all lost because they
spoke the truth.

The truth that you avoid is the truth that these men were real
Republican conservatives, who accurately and honestly expressed
the agenda of the Republican party.

Your party, Senator.

The final truth that you avoid is the truth that the American people
fully understood what these Republican candidates said, and we
understood what they intended to do.

And we rejected it.

Utterly.

Oh, and Senator Hutchison, please dont avoid the truth that its not
just abortion and womens autonomy at issue here.

Its practically the entire agenda of the conservative Republican
party, from their disdain and contempt for the poor to their
rapacious desire for war. From their persecution of innocent gay
people to their constantly shoving Jesus Christ down everyones
throat. From their hysterical paranoia to their virulent hate and fear.

No, it wasnt just their attempts to outlaw abortion as homicide and
destroy the constitutional right to privacy.

It was ALL of it.

QED GOP. Consider carefully the next moves as in 2016 the makeup of the
electorate will be even less favorable.

12. Hi SV,

As usual with democrats we have another failure to count properly or perhaps account properly. You rejected all the republicans–utterly? Do tell. They seem to be solidly in the majority in the Congress. Likely to be that way for some time. And then you have to factor in Jesse Jackson jr and his ilk (doesn't spend any time in DC or vote) and perhaps future does not look so rosy.

13. Curtis, where did I ever say I was a Dem? That is a bad assumption to make. Browncoats for me, please.
