Far East Cynic

The Skippy-san has landed-Where is Waldo?

Got here safely after the usual hubub of changing planes at Dulles. Was upgraded to buisness class-was suprised to not see it full. That, Mr. Tilton, is a crime. You should always fill first class and business-then open up some room in Economy. The rest of the trip here was fine.

Actually had to go straight to where I am working from the airport. They had actually sent someone to meet me-and take me there. I did not consider it a good sign of partying opportunities to come.

So where am I ?

Let’s see who can guess-prizes are still to be determined:

-From AD 106-271 this country was part of the Roman Empire. The Romans called the place, Dacia.

-This country has a an “L” shaped mountain range that splits the country into two parts.

-The Eight Air Force did not like a city here during World War II. One of the largest bombing raids of the war occurred on a city in this country.

-The leading cause of death for males 18-40 is traffic accidents.

-Like Korea-this country has its own language. Unlike Korea-this language is spoken by several neighboring countries.

-The women are among the most beautiful, stylish, well dressed, educated, and loving women in the world!

-Dracula has his bank here.

The last clue should be a dead give away. Gotta run-0630 comes early and I have to work to earn my beer!

  1. “The women are among the most beautiful, stylish, well dressed, educated, and loving women in the world”

You will need to provide photos of this just for us to verify. ~grin~

  2. Romania? Do the “russkies” know what you are up to? Yes, we blab it all over our news media!

  3. You’re in Bucharest? Went to high school with someone from Romania who said the country had good beer, so hope you get a chance to sample some.

Wish this trip wasn’t work-related, though, as would appreciate seeing some photographs of the museums.

  4. Romania, country of my birth.

Youre right about the women, but they tend to get wider after 30. Only Moldova speaks romanian although written with a cyrillic alphabet for a while. Enjoy some tsuica. Good stuff.

Should have called me for translating services and baggage handling.

Enjoy some sarmale, mititei and fete frumoase.

    Claudio

  5. Love Bucharest – dated a girl from there years ago – she bought me home and I have been going ever since. The Romanian wines are good, the palinca and tuica (local spirits) are swill, only good for cleaning paint brushes.

Go to Carul Cu Bere – fun touristy restaurant – they brew their own beer there but its not very good, the food is decent. if you want very very good traditional Romanian cuisine, go to Crama Culmea Veche, but you will need to take an english speaking local with you.
http://cramaculmeaveche.ro and I think beers are $1 during World Cup.

If you need expats and lousy English food – the Harp Bar pours Guinness, but the best part is you can walk from there to the center of Piata Unirri and sit by the fountain and watch wave after wave of some of the most incredible women you will ever see walk by, ages 20 – 50. The peasant museum is also interesting, if you have time.
